    Remember, keep safe!

Now winter is coming, I have three tips to keep you and your car safe this winter! 1) Oil - Make sure you have enough oil in the sump, and it is clean. If it is looking a little bit sooty or watery, get it changed, along with the filter, before the snow comes, not after, as when it is extra...

    Do you celebrate Halloween ?

I don't. And I hate Trick or Treaters! This 31st I'll be sitting in front of the television watching a good video with some popcorn, the curtains shut, and the volume up loud to drown out the sounds of children knocking on the door. Besides, I was responsible for scaring a Trick or...

Are you using energy saving bulbs, and do you notice a saving ?

I'm using energy saving bulbs in every room except the living room and kitchen, because those rooms have light fittings that need incandescent bulbs. I picked up lots of energy saving bulbs about 1 year ago when they were down to 10 Pence/20 Cents per bulb (I couldn't resist and picked up the...

If you won millions, what would you do ?

For the purpose of this discussion, lets say you won $200,000,000, what would you do with it ? I would give about $50,000,000 to local charities (more specifically the local charity for re-homing and helping cats), spent about $1,000,000 on a nice house in the country (with a very, very large...

    Replace or Repair ?

Lets say your Lawn Mower broke down, and it would cost $200 to fix - But, there was a mower with the same specifications as your current one for sale for $200 brand new... What would you go for ? Fix your current Mower, or buy a new one and dump the other ? I would fix my current mower, as...

    Take Care Of Your Stuff!

I am a strong believer in taking care in my stuff, especially electricals and gardening equipment. Today, we live in a world that uses something non stop with no maintenance, then when it dies, they blame the brand and buy another one, just to do the same again... Just to prove that things can...

    I'm so sorry...

Before you read this, please make sure you have a box of tissues next to you... I'm going on holiday from tomorrow (Monday) to Friday (7th), so I won't be on LMF for 5 days... I know you'll all be very upset that I won't be posting my incredibly witty and helpful threads, but you'll just have...

Would it be possible for LMF to have a "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of every thread ? A lot of other forums have this, and it is a lot quicker than clicking on the "Reply to Thread" box if you just have a few things to say.

    Winter Is Coming!

I think it was yesterday that the weather report said the nights were now longer than the days! I can't believe that is is only a few months until 2012... I'm still trying to get myself used to writing 2011 on the top of a letter instead of 2010, and now it is going to be 2012 soon...

Best LMF Member (apart from yourself)

Right, hopefully this can be friendly, and not turn nasty, as it is not intended to! Do You Give To Charities ?

I donate to charities whenever money permits, which unfortunately, has been very little recently, but I'm still giving when I can. In an ideal world, charities would not exist, because everybody would be fine, and nothing would need sorting, but this is the real world, and awful things happen...

Should we have some moderators ?

I may be wrong in saying this, but I think Muhammad and Briana are the only administrators. They do a great job, but shouldn't the forum have another couple of moderators so that there was always a member of "staff" online to check for any untoward behaviour ?

    Hesitant Warm Starts...

My 2011 Mountfield SP414 100CC 2.6 Horse Power Self Propelled lawn mower struggles to start when warm. Let me explain: When I take it out of the shed, I simply give it three pushes of the priming bulb, pull the starter cord, and she fires right up on the very first pull - Great. But, after...

    Safe To Use ?

I have a bottle of fuel additive in my shed, that says it improves performance, cleans carburetors, and increases fuel economy. Would it be safe to add a tiny drop of that into the fuel whenever I fill it up to keep the carburetor clean ? Or would it react badly in the lawn mower engine ...

    Adding Throttle...

How would I go about doing it on a 100CC push mower engine ? I can buy a throttle kit (cable and lever) for under $20 from eBay, but how hard it is to fit to a fixed throttle engine ? It is just the matter of taking off a pin or something that holds the throttle wide open and fitting the cable...

    Warm up time

My mower doesn't state in the manual how long to warm the engine up for... In fact it doesn't even say to warm it up! But obviously, me being me, I do. I usually let it warm up for about 1 minute, but should I warm it up for longer ? It is a self-propel mower, so I don't want to engage the...

    Do carburetors need servicing ?

I was thinking, as long as you don't let the mower sit stagnant for more than a month, the fuel shouldn't clog up the carburetor, so surely that would mean you will never have to service it ? Or regardless of the state of the fuel going through it, will it need servicing at some point in its...

Walk behind Are lawn mowers ever lasting ?

If the oil is changed regularly, can a lawn mower last forever ? My friend in Canada has a 1992 Tecumseh 3.5HP Push Walk Behind mower that has about 10,000 hours on it (probably more), has never been rebuilt, and is still running fantastically. I know engines were made better back then, so...

What is best for my beloved lawn ?

To leave it until it gets quite long and give it a good cut, or to give it frequent cuts when it is only a little too long ? I'd think the frequent cuts would be best, as cutting a lawn when the grass is quite long would cause some "tugging" wouldn't it ? Thanks in advance!

    Confusing manual instructions...

The manual for my push mower says not to tip it on its right side, as that is where the air filter is and it will flood it, and "damage the engine". That is fine, however the oil filler is also on the right side, and when I change the oil tomorrow, I can't help thinking I'll have to tip it on...

    It'll be fine yeah ?

As you probably know, I've been using 10W40 oil in my Mountfield 100cc mower since I bought it. I've only used it for 4 hours with the 10W40 though. I know I shouldn't have used the 10W40, but I did, who knows why! Anyway, I bought some Mountfield SAE30 (Straight-30) from the garden store...

Engine What kind of oil ?

I've just sold something and came into a bit of money, so decided to buy the proper 10W30 oil my mower asks for, as I'm currently using 10W40. Anyway, does it have to be lawn mower oil, or will regular 10W30 car oil work fine ?

    Now that's luck for ya!

I'm usually an unlucky person, but not today! The grass was getting about 1" longer than it should be, so it obviously needed a cut, I got the mower out, fired her up, and mowed. That's not that lucky really... Well, the mower fired up, so I guess that was lucky, but that isn't my point, bear...
