[..] Would you have been able to keep your equipment if it had been stored in a shed?

Absolutely. Then they could have taxed me an extra $50/month for the building. If they could see evidence it had power to it, (even just an extension cord) double that in taxes. Self-important jerks.:mad::mad:

I am SO grateful I live in the "land of the free". Sounds good in a song, but in practice.......Big Brother always wins in the end. There is no such thing as freedom.

If you built the shed you would have to buy a permit.
To apply for a permit you would need plans.
To submit plans you need a seal, to get the seal you need an Architect or Engineer.
To build the shed you will need a licensed contractor.
To drop off the permit you need to file "notice of commencement".
To occupy the shed you need a "certificate of occupancy".
To get this cerificate, you need a "final" inspection, which of course cannot occur without a "rough in" inspection.
Unless you want to have a light in your shed in which case you have to hire a licensed electrical contractor and get an electrical inspection. The county will tax you according to to the square footage x the milliage rate.
Your going to have to pay for all those inspections maybe more if you get red tagged and need a re-inspection.
You also have to pay to file notice of commencement (this is to remind the county to increase your taxes).

Unfortunetly collecting lawn mowers is an expensive pastime...at least in this country.
If we keep letting these people stick thier hands in our pockets, why should they stop?

You know what to do? If you have the room, build a barn and store stuff in there.

Wow, makes me glad I live in the middle of nowhere. I don't blame you for being furious, I would be too.

I understand Twall lives in what is called a "trailer park" OOOOOPS  excuse me, "manufactured home community".

Believe me, there will be an entire book full of regulations about what size he can build, where he can build, and if he wants to build something that does not comply with the local codes (the book above) he will have to pay for and ask permission for a variance which is time consuming and expensive and the odds of everyone who lives nearby approving his variance are not very good. My cop neighbor next door wanted a good size pre built storage shed delivered to his property, he told me that in order for it to be legal (minimum distance from property line) he had to first apply for a variance then go thru the process of having his other neighbors within 300 feet approve it, or, he could simply ask me, the mean, grumpy old fart, if he could just have it eight feet too close to the property line between us. Took me ten seconds to say "you have my permission" and offer my hand to seal the deal. Why can't more neighbors be like me? :confused2:

Ask that guy if he wants to sell and move to Florida. I always wanted to experience a Michigan winter:rolleyes:.

You must live in a manufactured home community and your park owner must be OK with you collecting mowers but not the town. It sounds like some do gooder is just jealous and turned you in to the town. They just can't mind there own business. I can see what you mean we are losing more rights all the time. We just have too many do gooders telling us what to do and the politicians just listen to them. They just want to treat us like kids so we don't hurt ourselves. Just look what they are doing to the lawn mowers, they are covering them with safety switches and if they keep going maybe we will need to have a operators licence, wear a helmet and safety belt, and a road test to mow our lawn.,
