Do you use a battery tender? If you don't keep the battery charged, it will have a shorter life. Did you read the entire thread? There is a battery inside of the hour meter.

My ZT HD 48 has been on for 14 yrs now, never goes off, never increases without the machine being operated, or the key left in on position. Happened only once, early, first wk of ownership. Have used a battery monitor only past 2 yrs.,only during Winter down time. Will this avoid eventual need for newww timer unit?

Simple answer. No the button (coin) cell batteries are usually not rechargeable and are usually Silver oxide type. When they reach the end of their life they simply die.

Coin cells are usually lithium not silver. The better longest lasting coin cells are silver, you have to shop for silver if that is what you want. Many sizes are available either way.

Should the hour meter turn off when my key is off on 2023 Ariens Ikon 918005 zero turn mower? Mine stays on and I'm concerned that may be weakening my battery.
It draws so little power it is of no concern. My Scag stays on all the time as well.
