Craftsman lawn tractor "turns on a dime" so they claim

Got a promotional email from Sears.com last night telling me about a great deal on this certain model. I am not interested, who wants to buy from somebody who is obviously lying about the actual turning capability of their merchandise? I think they should be prosecuted for false advertising...

Older snow removal attachment for Craftsman tillers

I bet few people have ever seen one of these...it's the pictures from the installation instructions for a Craftsman accessory kit sold for their tillers back about 1984. The tines on the tiller are removed along with the depth stake on the back, and the wheels/tires installed on the tine shaft...

    Must be nearing springtime

Does anyone on LMF realize the Snow Removal forum has had no new posts for several days now, at least not prior to this one. I interpret that as meaning either nobody has enough snow left to worry about, or are they so sick of winter they don't want to mention the word "snow" because it will...

    10W-30 0r straight 30W? Why not 10W-40?

Has anyone noticed increased oil consumption in their push mowers while using 10W-30 rather than straight 30W? I am a stickler about using only 5W-30 in my auto engines but when it comes to small motors I really don't pay much attention to which one I use, between the two others. (10-30&30)...

    LMF loading very slow

For the past two hours I have been online, LMF takes forever to respond. Internet Explorer, AOL, Tractorbynet, etc work in 1/10 the time LMF is taking, so it is obviously a problem here only. Not griping, just wanted to inform the administrator. Thanks.

Will $5 a gallon gas change your mowing habits?

Our local newspaper had a story yesterday saying because of the unrest in Libya, the price per gallon may hit $5 by summer. Diesel of course will be even more costly. I would cut back my mowing but I already let it go too long between mowings because my lawn is so huge. The irritating thing...

Who keeps patching their old yard tools together?

This is an IDC (Interdynamics Corporation) electric weed trimmer I purchased at Monkey Wards back in 1989. I have never tried to get OEM replacement parts, but have jury rigged the power cord and string shield/cutter with oddball parts twice, and repaired the on/off switch with JB Weld. It...

Mowing and yard care, or planters, or gardening?

How many of the members here feel they have just the right amount of area that they can devote the right amount of time to? Oil changing tip

I posted this in the JD forum here, thought I would share the idea with others, My tractor has a close fitting mower deck and it's impossible to get any size drain pan under the block when changing the oil. Query about new threads

    Check those new belts often

This applies to my Craftsman 2 stage blower but could also apply to any other belt driven power lawn care equipment. Pics from storm last Wednesday

We got about 16 inches of new snow last week and it was so windy the drifts were as high as 4 to 5 feet. My wife had an excuse for not going to work...that's my car visible in the picture, heres is buried under the snow to the left...not really....

What RPM do you mow at?

This should apply only to those who have an engine where you can vary the operating speed, it does not apply to mowers that run at a set, constant speed. Every mower or tractor I have owned that had a throttle that controlled engine speed clearly stated in the manual "always mow at full...

    Antifreeze spilling

    Home made chain carrier

My JD has no real factory toolbox, so I cut down an old gas can and mounted it on the drawbar to carry chains, towstraps, etc. In the summer I can install a larger toolbox type, but if I extend the drawbar any further in the winter, the rear blade hits it when I swivel it to reverse it.

Would you rather mow, or clear snow?

All summer long I gripe about the mowing I have to do, and the expense of burning diesel fuel and gasoline at $3 a gallon, and all the work involved in taking care of a 5 acre yard, plus a huge garden...and then after putting away the mowing and trimming equipment, I gripe about not being able...
