Yeah, JB weld is out for the gas tank. I've been looking online for a decent used one. I'm in Canada, so probably going to have to put the word out and wait.JB weld is a great product for many application that do not involve fuels or constant heat cycles like a radiator brass or plastic tanks. I've seen that stuff slathered on everything imaginable. At best it will buy a little time and slow down a severe problem in an emergency. It has never been what I would consider a permanent correct repair material.

I was just reading about West Systems G/Flex epoxy. Highly impervious to gasoline, and one of the best for adhering to HDPE - if the prep is done right. I bought some for the cracked JD 'Zenoy' hoods. Going to give this a go before forking out for a new gas tank. I'll let you know if it bonds.HDPE plastic is highly chemical resistance. Nearly nothing will stick (bond) to it, I did find one product that claimed it bonded to it but the time it was over $300 for an ounce. The repair method is plastic welding. And badly deteriorated tanks it is best just to replace them.

Yes I have mice to chew on hydraulic oil reserve tanks. I even had a new bottle of hydraulic oil that a mouse chewed a hole into it that I left sitting out on the bench. So it is the cleaning and the removal of the oxidation layers. And the blue tip of the flame must touch the surface of the plastic being bonded. I definitely recommend practicing on scraps before attempting this.HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and LDPE (low-density polyethylene) must be flame treated for good adhesion.

I think part of the problem is that manufactures are combining modified soybean oils and regular petroleum oils to make some plastics and mice loves soybeans.
Rubbing alcohol really works to get the petrol residue out of the plastic. I've steam cleaned it inside and out, and it's still giving off vapor big time. Going to let it sit a few days, and air it out. Possibly stream clean it again. I won't use the alcohol until right before I'm ready to patch. Thank you for the tip on flaming the plastic. I see it's also recommended before repairing the zenoy (soybean) hoods. Yes, definitely good to practice before the repair. A lot of recycle products are HDPE, so no shortage of practice pieces. I have a few scrap shards of the hood material too, but I don't know if it reacts the same way as the tank would.Here is one note from the user manual.

So no gasoline or fumes can be present or it is a flame out.
