JD Repair Manual says wire size is .8 … what does that refer to?

Thanks.

I would assume they are referring to 0.8 mm which translates to 18 gauge.

Actually it is mm2 [square millimeters]. About everything JD uses is metrics specs.

It is fun when it comes to tool sizes as most tool sets like to skip sizes and then you have order the sizes you need at an extra cost. Like they skip 15mm sockets in the impact sets and most of the 20mm-30 sizes. Even after years of buying tools I still run across a size I don't have. That throws a job off a week while I await the tool.

Just like this week I pulled out the deep well impact metric set to get a 15mm and was skipped. Luckily several years I needed the same socket so I dug thru the loose metric sockets and found it; although, the laser image is about gone but that is what an engraver is for.

So hmmm, if I want to replace a run of electrical wire is it 18 gauge? Or given what you’re saying StarTech is it some other size?

It is 18 Ga as I just noting that the notation was wrong as there is a between linear mm and circular mm [mm2].

I don't think an US electrical supplier would carry the wire labeled as .8 mm2. And would even probably confuse the counter person if you asked for .8 mm2 wire.

It sorta like asking for a metric adjustable wrench when it is just an adjustable wrench.

Gotcha. Yeah, I’m sure an electrical supplier would have a field day with that request.

Glad you found your 15mm. I agree it’s annoying when they skip sizes ( or when mfg use odd ball sizes).
