I don't know, ever since Ken Jennings lost I've found it difficult to get back into Jeopardy. That kind of coincided with me removing it from my TiVo season pass as well...

I read Ken Jenning's book "Brainiac" and it shocked me to learn that college quiz bowls are a lot more difficult and more competive than "Jeopardy" usually is.

We have 'high school bowl' on our local AM station - and it's hard! Nothing like Jeopardy at all. It's really intense stuff......

Alright then...

When we opened LMF (May 2010), we invited all TBN members... at the time about 76,000. Of those, roughly 1,250 (1.7%) signed up for LMF.

Since then, 1,050 new members joined LMF. In that same period, 19,800 joined TBN.

So, we invited the 19,800 who signed up for TBN since we last invited TBN members to join LMF. And so far 329 (1.7%) have joined. We're expecting about 400 total from this mailing.

As for traffic... our previous one-day post record on LMF was 180. Last I checked we were over 400 today. Tomorrow I can post more info since the traffic measurement takes a little while to update.

Now, if only we could find 19,800 people to invite EVERY day...

If you read my signature on TBN you will see that I only drive a Massey because of cost. Born and raised on JD but my dad raised no dummy so if you find a great deal you have to go with it.:ashamed:
I really wanted to by green but the Red is growing on me.
Here a pic of a JD H I restored in my fathers memory.

Went errand running this morning, picked up 60 pounds of cat litter, 30 pounds of dry cat food, 24 quarts of Formula Shell 5W-30 motor oil at Menards, stopped at Harbor Freight with a coupon to buy another one of their half inch drive torque wrenches for $9.99 and tax. Stopped one more time on the way home at a convenience store to buy two gallons of milk and a quart of beer. Fed the cats when I got home and let them out to explore, I am sitting on the back deck keeping track of them and sipping my beer and admiring the view.

LIFE IS GOOD !!!! :smile::thumbsup::smile::thumbsup::biggrin:

What an exhausting day - two setups, both very complex. I'm new to this setup bit, so each move is a nail-biter! Compressor at the shop burned up yesterday (the backup compressor) so we didn't work, which means there was twice as much pressure today! I'm just plain frazzled.

Like the guy training me always says : "and they wonder why I drink".........:drink:

Then JohnDeere3720's post count went haywire too! And their post counts mysteriously kept acting up... hmm

It started around here: TractorByNet.com

I guess I was gloating some...:ashamed: Anybody know what caused the problem in the first place???

Well, in out latest expereince, it's slower than third class...my wife mailed a baby shower invitation to Little Elm, Texas, using first class postage, on March 5th. The letter was returned to us on March 31, "Insufficient address, unable to forward" and the sticker that said that was dated 3/28...so that means it took 3 days to return the mail, and that means it took three days to get to Texas, so what happened to the letter between 3/8 and 3/28?

No wonder the post office is going broke!!! :frown:

Thanks for the kind compliment on the kitty pic, that one was rescued from the underside of my cop neighbors garden shed last year. He was only about 2 1/2 months old when the pic was taken. The kitten would not come out from under the shed so I made a T-roller of 1 1/2 inch and 3 inch PVC pipe to roll 15 feet under the shed and flush him out, my neighbor grabbed him when the little guy ran out from underneath, and asked me, "where did you get the idea for that "gizmo" you used?". Bingo, the kitten was named "Gizmo". He is a year old now but the picture is my favorite one. Sent from mobile.

The area with the trails is about 500 to 600 feet deep and 450 feet wide it has mowed trails that X and Y and curve like crazy there are a half dozen ways to ride the 600 foot depth and if you zig zag in the process you will easily go a quarter mile just getting front to back and its impossible to measure the exact length. In the middle is a 7 foot high 80 foot long hill with jumps when I had them dump all the fill from our basement addition excavation you can go over a half mile just following the outline of our property at the edges. Yeah, save your big deal for when you get the next 500 posts which will probably be this month. Will not be on LMF much myself the next few weeks, went to my eye care doctor today and learned I likely have a detached retina. Both he and my primary care doctor want me to severely limit the amount of time I spend watching any screens, be they computer screens, tv, or my Blackberry. So I won't be on LMF much until after the next appointment two weeks from today and maybe not much for the next several weeks. Don't feel bad for me, its just a precautionary thing. Will miss hanging out on LMF and TBN though. Thanks to all. Sent from mobile.

I'm truly sorry to hear that, JD. A detached retina, from what I hear, has a very high heal rate if caught early.

Yes, The Cub ads are hard to miss and for me are OK, but there is something below them on the main screen that is a "page can not be found" and most of the time that is not complete.
I tend to dislike the annimated ads -- for me it would be better if the ad changed with the page instead of annimation.

Hiting sauce, yes...Tabasco on my scrambled eggs...also on meds for sinus headaches, and the eyedrops they give you for vision testing badly blur your vision, amd at my age my vision is already lousy because of all the tractor and lawnmower porn I have viewed...

Went back to primary care eye doctor early today, after enduring an hour and a half of testing, he is cautiously optimistic my retina is not as damaged as they originally thought but he still wants me to limit my screen viewing for next three weeks, then I return for another round of tests...

Cannot tell you guys here of LMF how much I appreciate your support and the jokes you make me laugh about with the huge, colorful print...THANKS....:thumbsup:

Man, I'm not p----d at you! You were trying (i think) to embed the screenshot (or attach something) in your post, and as it shows up when I quoted you, the tags to do so are not opened. it's missing a "[" character at the beginning, and it looks like it was cut-and-pasted from a text editor, or something. I hauled five loads to the woods, 1/4 mile away, with the Snapper...took all day sawing, filling up the cart, dumping, repeat. STILL not done! (got five to eight more to go! That's why this rain has ME grumpy, too.)

Probably has more to do with the "sawing, filling up the cart, dumping, repeat" than the Snapper seat!

(btw, I wish I had some nearby "woods" to dump the TONS of debris from last winter. I have to cut it all up, load it in the truck and drive 20 miles to the dump! 8 trips so far, loaded up like a conestoga wagon!)

"TONS"...why don't you just BURN the stuff instead of taking it to a landfill and paying to bury it???

Why burn when you can recycle? I mean, dumping it in the woods is a good alternative - it eventually breaks down and feeds the system. But barring that, when I take it to the dump it gets converted into mulch and sold - this helps fund their operation, and it is a great, low-cost source of natural mulching materials for the public. I know, because I'm a customer!

I'm not against burning per se - I have a fire pit that I use year-round. But burning these materials seems a waste.

I was seriuosly considering being a volunteer years ago as a friend and cohourt of mine was such.
When I spoke to him at great length he told me the hardest part was being the first on the scene of a vehicle accident. He described having to cut the injured from a smashed vehicle only to have them expire minutes later.
I decided I was probably not suitable for that and volunteered in another area.

I happen to be a Southern sympathizer. I see the Civil War as a war of States' rights, versus the monstously powerful Fed that the Rebels didn't like the idea of.

I think that making slavery the main issue was a political move, to make the North look like it had the moral high ground. All the noise about that meant nobody noticed the fed growing to the point of having power it was never meant to have. Still has an unconstitutional amount of power, based on the original document, IMHO.

However, that said - I don't think secession was the answer, and if the Rebels had won, I don't think America would have ever become the economic and millitary powerhouse that we became.

So, I take it you disagree? My view is not the view of my school, or what I was 'formerly' taught. Just, after reading enough from both sides through the years, I have formed the opinion I have.

I hate to tell you, but history itself is WRITTEN by one side or the other (usually the winners in a conflict).....so I tend not to trust only one viewpoint.

Besides, history is never as cut-and-dried as the texts might have one believe......there will ALWAYS be sides - and the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Well I hate to tell you  but the truth is never in the "history" or the "texts". "History" is revisionist claptrap written after the fact, by the "sides". And it's not a simple matter of finding the median between the sides either.

You are on the mark with respect to not trusting single resources.

The past is vitally important. To make it taboo because it's sticky and unclearly motivated only dooms us to repeat it.

Besides, this isn't with the lawnmower stuff. It's in an OFF off-topic thread in an off-topic forum....

I take things in context..........and OTHER contexts, as well. (like people who won't have their kids in a public school because they don't spend half their day on their knees in prayer....awwww, nevermind)

I never said a word about being a king.....I just said I am sarcastic.....likes repel. You did teach that, right?

There is no "outside of class", for our children seek to learn every minute of every day. When we're not teaching them, they are out in the yard looking under rocks to find things to learn, gathering wild mushrooms to make soup for the homeless, and propagating new drought-resistant plants for third-world countries. They find lessons in everything. My kids learned everything about the respiratory system just by watching the neighbor kid (public school:rolleyes:) pick his nose.

There are no walls! The world is our classroom. Our children learn even as they sleep - smarter when they open their eyes in the morning than they were when they closed them the night before. And better looking too.

Little more than 1.5" of rain over the past 11 weeks here. With daily highs in the 90's, it's crispy, powder dry here.
Irrigation is and has been prohibited for 6 days a week since March. I haven't used my primary mower in 2 months.
Fires are popping up across the state.
Surprisingly, I see people on thier mowers during the afternoon in a thick cloud of brown dust. I don't know what they could possibly be cutting as the grass is not growing and even dying in some areas. One neighbor insists on using the mower once a week.

Now that the ground has dried, I mowed my wooded 2.5 acres with the ZTR I bought in early Spring in 1:30, fully trashing my previous lawn tractor record of 2:30.

If they can beat the Patriots this week, I really believe they are for real, finally. Not quite Superbowl caliber yet, but they'll be a solid playoff team. I said that at the end of last year - and everyone thought I was crazy. They were trashing them on that huge blowout of a season opener (it was a fluke, or the Chiefs were just that bad), and they were all "they won't win" against Oakland. All the while I kept telling everyone "stop judging them on their past. We have a new coach, a new QB, and the team feels different.". Here we are 2 and 0 for the first time in awhile. Heck, it took us over half the season last year to win our FIRST GAME!

Optimism doesn't hurt every once in awhile.

The Bills offense has gotten great with Fitz. I think it'll be a lot closer game than many think it'll be.

Agree, though - it'll be a doozy of a game. That's why I said - if the Bills can pull this one out, they'll be for real this year.

Bufalo comes back fram a 21 point defecit to defeat what a lot of people would call the best team in the NFL. It says a lot about this Bufalo team and thier character.
I'm sure the first half was tough to watch, but the second half made it worthwhile as Tom Brady threw 4 interceptions while trying to weed through the bulletproof Bufalo defense.
This really defines the Bills for now.
Congratulations Twall, after 11 years you finally have an NFL team that is a contender.

BIG DIFFERENCE.

So, no pros ever started out playing in HS? None of these innocents ever dream of 'the pros'? What if your pure, angelic nieces and nephews made it to the big time? Would they, too become money-hungry fiends the day they take their first paycheck for playing the game they love? At what point do they become demons? Where is that line, JD? The first million? The first hun thou? How about the first ten thou? The first hundred dollar bill? The first autograph? The first time someone stuffs a camera in their face and tells them they are a god? The first time they believe that? Where is the turning to the dark side point? Pros are hardly innocents, but scum of the Earth is a tad overdoing it, IMHO. The same for suggesting every brat in HS just loves the game, and never dreams of making millions at it.

Once again JD - the attitude and broad-brushing is plenty loud enough, but the substance is kinda lacking. Respectfully said, of course.

The Patriots come out flat and are down by 10 when Tom Brady blows a elbow. The momentum never shifts......
Eli on the other hand, is relaxed a throws for 341, 23 for 26. He's able to do that, as the Patriots can't stop the Giant's running game in the first half.

You know........ you're right, I don't know the outcome of the Superbowl. but I do remember another Superbowl...... ahhh, we don't want to go there... you know the one where the Pats mailed it in?
Tom Brady is a hall of fame quarterback if he never throws another pass. I love that guy, and Bill Belechick is .... well, I wouldn't mind if they changed the name of the "Vince Lombardy trophy" to the "Bill Bellechick trophy", He's a hall of fame coach, the best of the best, and he should win this game.
I just think the Giants have a better defense and enough offense to come out ahead.
In this game, at this time of year, always take the team with the better defense.
Having said that, Baltimore should have won that game but for a missed field goal, In which case, we would not even be talking about Tom Brady or Bill Belechick.

Speaking of Chowdah, which do you guys like the red or the white? In my area the red is the most popular, but I'm into the white.

As for football, I have to admit that Eli is having a great end to his season. Their defence is what won the past Superbowl. I think it will be a close game and well worth watching, but I don't see Brady letting Eli winning a second time.

#478

bakerg

The Pats defense has played a lot better lately and if Wolfolk ever catches Eli and lands on him it's all over for the Giants. Brady is 100 times better than Alex Smith and will pick the Giants defense apart.:biggrin:
