Well it's been a while! Long story short...

I have had the mower "serviced" by a reputable local place, several times since posting here, and they have't changed the pulley wheel position etc. I did mention it the first time it went to them, and they said it all looked correct. That blew me away a bit, but they a a big place and do a lot of these so I assumed they knew what they were talking about. However......... !!!! It eats belts this thing and yet again today the current belt (the long one which drives the cutter deck) has stretched and is flapping all over the place. The belt goes the same side of the tensioner pulley, hmm, not sure that made sense. The belt goes TWICE around ONE side of the tensioner pulley, i think that's what I mean! Wondering if anyone could advise if I really should take this thing to bits, buy the correct bits and re-assemble correctly! I did notice that ours is a 2006, none of the images on that site https://www.diyspareparts.com/parts/stiga/fits/park-pro16/ show a 2006 model.

Here are a couple of pictures which show our setup, and another one showing model number. Hoping someone could advise where I start in setting it up properly

Some more photos would be good.
The lower belt in the photo is wrecked, it has rolled over and is running back to front.
As to the difference in tensioning,it will depend upon which way the engage disengage mechanism works
Generally you engage by pushing in as this increases the arch of contact.
For that you use a flat pulley pushing on the back of the belt

Belts invert when the pulleys are a long way out of alignment

Now what I see in your photos is not a Park Pro but a Compact.
They have totally different pulley & belt set ups.

I have great problems with Stiga parts down here as they change distributors more often than we change prime ministers.
Each new distributor refuses to offer any support for previous models so it is a real bun fight to get parts let alone service information.
Also the model names seem to be more than a little ambigious
Note that in the Pro diagrams you posted, the tensioner pulls the belts out & had a V idler pulley
In the Compact the idler pushes so is a Flat pulley.

Your belt looks way too long

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes I am totally and utterly confused! The mower has the "Park Pro 16" sticker on it, both sides, but that doesn't prove much! Here are some photos in case they help[, but that link you sent does look more like the tensioner pulley arm (with bent down end) similar to mine. Confused.com!!!!!!!

Well the deck says Compact Pro 110
And the hood says park Pro 16
But the hood is plastic so might not be the original item.
However the PTO system is the same as shown on the compact
But the only 110cm deck listed is electric
SO we are up that well known creek.
As the belt that is on there is stuffed, cut it.
Dissengage the large flat pulley and run the belt around both pulleys so that it is loose on both of them .ie runs to the outside edge of the pulleys
measure the outside length of the belt and that is the USA best size
The EU size will be 2" shorter as they use the inside length of the belt .

Now I am assuming that blades on has the pulley in and blade off has the pulley out.

I have never seen a code breaker for Stiga belts so have always needed to measure them.

Damn spam keeps catching my notification emails. Thanks for that, interesting. Yes it looks like a Stiga PP16 which has had a replacement deck fitted, from a different machine. Very odd, surprised it works at all! It does run and cut lovely when it's working, but it eats belts for fun.

Try a belt that is shorter by about 2".
Get a standard auto fan belt to do this to save money.
They won't last all that long bit then the really expensive mower belts you are using aren't lasting all that long either.
The shortest belt that will allow the blades to stop turning and not burn is the right one but any one that will not touch when the blades engage will do the job.
There is no published crossover for Stiga belts.
There is also nothing special about Stiga belts they seem to be standard wrapped kevlar fibre mower belts.
When you find one that works , please pop back to let every one know.
