Good day everyone,

First post!

I have a Honda HRB 215 mower and I've got a stupid question. I recently installed a mulching kit and since doing so, the mower seems much lighter so I have been manually pushing it instead of engaging the drive.

Does doing this run the risk of damaging the drive function? I have noticed a squeak coming from one of the rear wheels that isn't there if the drive is engaged.

Any opinions would appreciated.

I wouldn't think it would damage it.

Welcome to LMF, Jimmy.

The HRB's drive can safely be released and you can push the mower at will, with no issues. The squeaking may just be a dry spot on the axle/adjuster. The wheels come off easily, and a bit of silicone spray would make it smooth and quiet. If you do that, shoot a bit of silicone spray down the cable cores too to help prevent rust and keep 'em moving smoothly.

I like white lithium grease personally builds up and is easy to clean off

Now after having more experience with my mower, I would like to change my answer! A month or two ago I was pushing my mower back to my house (it was off) and I noticed a squeaking sound. It was only there when I didn't have the drive engaged. It got really bad. All I had to do to fix the problem was put 3-in-1 oil in the right axle bushing, but I think the reason it started was from me pushing it around the neighborhood a lot when it was off (so without the drive engaged). So actually in your case what you were doing might have caused the problem, but it is an easy fix.
