OK... Let's See Your Mower!

looks like you own the Ex-mark factory there. nice shop set-up also. Take care of your daughter and pass the knowledge on to her:thumbsup::cloud9:

Sure plan on it, and thanks we are growing as a team, along with the growing pains, plan on teaching my daughter what I can.. If she can learn to take care of what she has, I think I couldn't ask more from her.

Greetings. I'm new to this site. Here are some photos of one of my mowers.

After Photo by rmcphearson | Photobucket

It is a 1939 Toro Putting Green mower. I use this one for the back yard. Emerald Zoysia mowed at 3/4". I'm a golf course mechanic. Reel mowers are my thing. I can use a some pointers on small engines occasionally. I think I've found the right site!

Roland

Thanks for posting Roland. Last night I found the same mower on Craig's list. Glad to learn it is a 1939. Mine is similar (at best) to your before condition, restoration to follow. As a hobby I will be cutting putting green style in places around the yard.

Great. I wanna see photos. Those were designed to mow 4 hrs a day, 7 days a week for years. A hole different ballgame from a residential mower.

There will be a delay before photos. I am considering a sand blasting service before re-painting Toro Red. Where did you discover so much about these? For years I have been using a residential push reel I drilled and dropped for closer cutting. Now I have the real deal!

I work on the modern version every day. These were probably designed to mow at 1/4". I'm mowing at 3/4" and I can push it with one hand. If you are going to take it apart you may want to inspect and/or replace the reel bearings and have the reel turned on a lathe while you have it out.

Back then Toro used a "duller" color of red. The modern Toro red which is what I used is much darker and "sharper" looking. I think you can get both from your local Toro dealer in aerosol cans. But don't expect to get any parts... I tried that. I'm assuming you don't plan on sand blasting the aluminum parts. Have them polished. You've got the only other one that I know of. I'll be glad to help with the resto.

Cheers!

My main mower.

A 1973 Yazoo YR60 gear and belt drive 60" that I rebuilt in 1992. It's got a 1992 production Kohler CH-18 (spec 62500) that replaced a Wisconsin TJD. It was upgraded to the PTO style transmission with drum brakes. The mower deck was stripped apart and relined with new steel all around. I've used it myself over 20 years now in commercial use. I've also rebuilt a YR48 48" in the same manor. Both are still going strong! Thanks!!!
