New to me X304, oil everywhere!

Just bought a used X304 today. Got it home, and there's oil everywhere. All over the mower deck, my trailer, shop floor, etc. Does anyone know of a weak point on these machines where I can start narrowing the leak down? I have 2 X300s, and this machine is a lot more complicated.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Well there is only two oil sources. The engine and the transaxle.

First all the leaked oil must washed [cleaned] off. Then you can start looking for the source. Usually oil on the deck would be engine's crankshaft leak. Now the Tuff Torq does have oil fill cap under the fan that go bad on older transaxles. The replacement caps does not have the design problem.

UV dye can help find the leakage. First put it only in the engine. This way when new oil leaks out you tell if it coming from the engine or the transaxle. IE oil present with the dye its the engine; oil present with no dye its the transaxle.

From what I can gather from the service manual only the X360 has hydraulic steering. Also the IPL does not shown any steering related hydraulics. Now it does appears that you do have mechanical four wheel steering [4WS].

Yes, 4-wheel steering, which is new for me. I didn't see a reservoir anywhere, so figured it must not use oil/fluid. I think I'll check
the vent and cap and input seal on the transaxle next. Hopefully not a cracked case. Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

Thank you! Very helpful. I always wondered how these systems worked. I was just looking the machine over,
trying to figure out how everything works together. This gives me a lot clearer picture.
My favorite machine has been my 2009 X300, but I think I'm going to make the X304
my main Lady. It has half the hours, and I imagine handles much better.
