When I was a kid I did this. My dad got tired of having just a circle mowed and dug out the corners and it became the best way to do it. Just had to remember to shut the thing off when it was done or the self propel wheels would dig and the the blades would dig. It was a craftsman front wheel drive

Seriously take extra caution when mowing around water as many people have drowned when the mower overturned pinning them underwater. Slick and steep banks can equal disaster.

Reminds me of a customer of mine a few years ago. I told him that I did not pick up and deliver, and he said he would get his MTD tractor to me somehow. The next day, I keep hearing a banging noise in the drive, and it was him trying to back down the driveway. He had taken a come-along and hooked one end into the hatchback
latch on his car, the other end to the rear of his mower, and clicked it up until the rear wheels were well off the ground and the front wheels were free wheeling.

Why he decided to try and back down the driveway, I'll never know, but the miles driving on the highway had turned his MTD's front wheel bushings into molten goo......

So I had to replace them as well as fix his mower........

Re: Mower Hauling Humor

Really enjoyed seeing the various hauling methods used on loading a rider!
I liked the one with the plywood on the rear lid of a small car and it strapped on
somehow. But HOW did he get it up on there? Next question: HOW will he unload
it? :confused2: The only thing I've personally seen to equal it is this. I was sitting
at a red light at a major intersection and what goes dashing across in front of me
hauling 15 or MORE wooden pallets all stacked up and strapped on? A small Toyota
or something similar doing about 45 mph! With NOT 4 tie down straps,
No...not 3, NOT even 2, but ONE solitary, tie down ratchet strap going side to side!

Wind power, beer power and gluten free.

Okay, wind power motor?
Glutten free muffins with the beer? Don't think so.
And the rear discharge towards the feet? Well, given the power input from the wind blade, I won't worry about any grass coming out.

Lawnboy. His son had pulled his guts out trying to start it and it wouldn't
hit a lick. I finally go over about a week later to look-see and WHAT do I find?
First I looked down at the spark plug and thought..'jeesh..what a weird looking plug!'
Pulled the cap off what I thought was the 'plug' and found out it was a
quick-connect male AIR COMPRESSOR FITTING! :confused2:
The old man had put it in the engine thinking it was a spark plug!

Question: Why are husbands like lawn mowers?

Answer: They're hard to get started, emit foul odors, and don't work half the time.

I don't have a picture, just a story. I do the "trim" mowing with a steel deck Snapper from the 1990's. The mower is so heavy that it takes two of us to lift it into the car if we need to bring it somewhere. I was away on a business trip, so my wife decided to cut the grass. Later, she complained about how hard it was to push. I asked her if she had used the self-propelled feature. You guessed it, no. She must have built some muscles that day.

#165

S

slomo

THIS might be better than an OEM filter. Put a little SAE 30w on her and give it a squeeze. Has two stages of ultra cleanness. Probably cheaper than most filters too. Little trimming to fit the housing.......

Forget K&N, the wife's kitchen sponges are the new hot rod filter.

Okay all jokes aside, what would be wrong with this if it was trimmed proper to fit and oiled?

We had one of those Craftsman 22" 6.75 Eager-1 self-propelled lawn mowers' w/Tecumseh engine. One day it wouldn't start before I discovered it had a blown cylinder head gasket. Found one online at searspartsdirect; OEM; great price (I think approx $7); arrived in a couple days.

I set the mower up on a table I hastily constructed in the garage from sawhorses & half a solid core door blank. My Shining Bride came out to watch my amazing mechanical skills in action.

While cleaning the cylinder head and gasket surfaces, I somewhat smugly showed her my classic Craftsman 1/2" torque wrench I had found at Hardwick & Sons over 20 years ago, as I confidently explained what it was for, and how important it was to torque bolts to their correct torque values &c!
And saying, Yeah, Sweetie, I've had this ol' 1/2" Craftsman torque wrench here since I was a mere teenager! Yeah, I've been using this trusty ol' torque wrench for some 20 or 30 years! Yep. Prolly on too many vehicles to even count. *smug sniff & nod of a pro*

She was impressed.

Then I told her she'd have to wait a few moments—while I went to check the torque value specs—before being even more impressed by witnessing it and me in action as I performed incredible mechanical feats of torqueing.

I took a quick glance at the tech manual; the torque value spec showed: 200 lbs.

After returning to the garage and adjusted the torque wrench up to 200 lbs, I recall saying something like . . . Hmmm, I haven't torqued anything to this high of a torque setting for a long time, if ever!

Then while ratcheting the head bolts in their torque sequence pattern—several times, over and over, and over without the TW clicking—I recall repeating something like . . . Hmm, this seems really tight for these bolts!?. . . while my Shining Bride was still watching me, still looking impressed, still with that look of: Oooh! That's my man. Fixin' our lawnmower!

Then as I continued ratcheting we both heard the sharp report of the aluminum cylinder head crack. ? ? ?

Hmmm, I said, as I noticed the crack. Um, I think I'll go double-check the torque spec.

200 in-lbs . . INCH POUNDS ! ? = 16.6 ft-lbs = 22.5 N-m

I didn't even own or know anything about in-lbs & N-m torque wrenches at the time!

New cylinder head . . . $40

Another cylinder head gasket . . . $7

Paying close and proper attention to the specifications, while not being so over-confident you forget to exercise some good ol' common sense for crying out loud, so to avoid looking like a complete and total idiot . . . Priceless !

All you are going to learn from that video is how to sucker ignorant idiots into making money for you .
There is a reason why I very rarely put a link to a video onto this forum & that video demonstrates it.
He started out with a BS claim then set out to prove the BS claim was BS and in doing so confused those who do not understand the fundamentials of combustion theory .
BS "a lot of people claim it will strip the oil off the cylinder " Really ? On a 4 stroke ?
Strip the oil off the walls that are being continually replenished with the splash from the sump.
Any one what to explain how that will happen ?
What is did do was to dilute that oil which was what he wiped off the head & bore but that got dismissed.
He made a great deal about checking the compression but did nothing to bypass the ACR which is built into the cam on side valves .
Weather the drill cranking was fast enough to combat it or not I have no idea,'However he made no effort to tell any one what starting fluid he was using
Plain old either that most places sell or special formula for petrol engines ?
I find it difficult to believe that a carburettor engine would run on either in the fuel tank as the jetting will be all wrong
The thermometer was a good ruse as either burns a lot colder than petrol does so will not generate as much heat as petrol will, which is probably why the thinned down oil did not burn in the cylinder , so it showed nothing other than the monkey can aim a gun & pull the trigger .

So either he knows the whole thing was BS and did so deliberately in order to get a lot of views , fan contraversity & make a lot of money
OR he is a 1/2 wit .
In any case I know Darwin was mostly right and if the mentally deficient want to believe that trash then it is their engine that can ( NOTE CAN ) suffer the consequences , not mine or those of my customers .

Well its Halloween month so I reckon horror stories are the rage.

When we are young we are stupid about safety but hopefully we all learn before something bad happens. It like wearing safety glasses. They are a pain but having to get an eye worked on is not fun if you don't lose it. Last year I had a piece of metal to get pass my safeties and had to have it removed. Very lucky it just got stuck on the surface but was still painful.

Very true about Halloween month.. Yep you were lucky on the eye deal. As a young kid I had a fascination with watching spiders attack their prey in their web. I used to drop ants in the web & watch closely, one spider spit his web/string right in my eye. Yep, Mom dragged me to the hospital.

I do like to wait for the first cool-ish and WINDY day to open the windows, fire-up the furnace and purge the burnt spider web smell out.

Just so I don't wake up to it at 5 am as a surprise!

Lady called in to the mower shop, asking for a replacement dip stick for her ride-on.

She was asked how she'd lost the original. She replied that it wasn't lost, at all.

It's just seems to have become too short to reach the oil.

None of your photos have uploaded
They have to be in JPEG format
If you are trying to send them direct from your phone they will be in RAW format and not upload
The file size also needs to be reasonable
I pop them into photoshop
then resize to 12" along whichever side is the longest & save at 72 DPI
These show up full size on most computers

at the golf club........

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cellular phone on the bench rings and rings.
finally a man nearby engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to talk.

Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: "Hello"

WOMAN: “Hi Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"

MAN: "Yes."

WOMAN: “I’m at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It’s only $2,000; is it OK if I buy it?”

MAN: “Sure, go ahead if you like it that much.”

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one I really liked.”

MAN: "How much?"

WOMAN: “$90,000."

MAN: “OK, but for that price I want it with all the options.”

WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing… I was just talking to Janie and found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They’re asking $980,000 for it.”

MAN: “Well, then go ahead and make an offer of $900,000.They'll probably take it. If not,
we can go the extra eighty-thousand if it’s what you really want.”

WOMAN: "OK. I’ll see you later! I love you so much!”

MAN: "Bye! I love you, too.”

The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide open.

He looks around and asks, “Anyone know who’s phone this is?"

Aging Realities
1. When one door closes and another door opens, you are probably in prison.

2. To me, "drink responsibly" means don't spill it.

3. Age 60 might be the new 40, but 9:00 pm is the new midnight.

4. It's the start of a brand new day, and I'm off like a herd of turtles.

5. The older I get, the earlier it gets late.

6. When I say, "The other day," I could be referring to any time between yesterday and 15 years ago.

7. I remember being able to get up without making sound effects.

8. I had my patience tested. I'm negative.

9. Remember, if you lose a sock in the dryer, it comes back as a Tupperware lid that doesn't fit any of your containers.

10. If you're sitting in public and a stranger takes the seat next to you, just stare straight ahead and say, "Did you bring the money?"

11. When you ask me what I am doing today, and I say "nothing," it does not mean I am free. It means I am doing nothing.

12. I finally got eight hours of sleep. It took me three days, but whatever.

13. I run like the winded.

14. I hate when a couple argues in public, and I missed the beginning and don't know whose side I'm on.

15. When someone asks what I did over the weekend, I squint and ask, "Why, what did you hear?"

16. When you do squats, are your knees supposed to sound like a goat chewing on an aluminum can stuffed with celery?

17. I don't mean to interrupt people. I just randomly remember things and get really excited.

18. When I ask for directions, please don't use words like "east."

19. Don't bother walking a mile in my shoes. That would be boring. Spend 30 seconds in my head. That'll freak you right out.

20. Sometimes, someone unexpected comes into your life out of nowhere, makes your heart race, and changes you forever. We call those people cops.

21. My luck is like a bald guy who just won a comb
