I'm looking to replace my old craftsman push mower. Does anyone have experience working with the HRX Honda mowers? They seem pricey but packed in features. Any information would be appreciated.

Honda HRX mowers are awesome!! They cut great, and you really don't have to clean the deck because it is made of NeXite, which grass doesn't stick to. I would recommend the HRX217HYA. More expensive, but better in my opinion. Since you asked this so long ago, if you got a mower already, which did you get?

You cant go wrong with a Honda mower. I have owned and used 3-4 craftsman mowers, a Yard Man mower, and a Cub Cadet mower, all brand spankin new. I finally got fed up with the poor engineering of those mowers and bought a Honda mower that was not currently running for $60, cleaned out the carb and now have a mower that makes all the other I have used look like complete trash.

I have been mowing 3-10 lawns a week for the last 12 years and wish I had bought a Honda mower since the beginning. With the twin blades the mulching and bagging is amazing and the Hondas can self-propel faster than you would think a walk behind mower could cut and and not miss blades or bog down given a well cared for lawn.

I find it sad a brand new craftsman or cub cadet mower is a piece of trash compared to the 10-12 year old Honda mower I just bought for $60, and I am very picky when it comes to the quality of cut and amount visibility of grass clippings on the lawns I mow. If it gives you any kind of idea of how picky I am, I built my own lawn striper for a walk behind mower just so it looks as professional as possible and it sure as heck does.

WOW....an old mower out-performs new ones. I agree...it shows Hondas are great mowers. Could you post a pic of your lawn striper? I am interested in buying/making one.

I have a 1995 Honda mower. When it is running it can't be beat. I use it only for my own yard. I have replaced the following items on it in all these years. Complete deck front wheel broke off, new transmission, new wheels twice, new blades, new carb, new bag twice. I think it finally died it was blowing oil yesterday. Was running but once engaged the blades it stalls. Would i buy another one probably only cause new snappers are not my type. One other thing the grass does still catch on the plastic deck and needs to washed off. I use the mulching blades and bag sometime.

If I were you I would get a new Honda HRX217HYA. I use it commercially and the biggest problem I ever had was I needed to oil something.

Yes, the only difference is that the HYA has hydrostatic transmission where you can set the speed anywhere from 0-4 mph. The VKA has the Smart Drive (kind of like Personal Pace). Also, the HYA goes 0.4mph faster (that really doesn't matter). Here is the comparison of the 2: Honda Power Equipment: Honda Generators, Lawn Mowers, Snowblowers, Tillers
Personally I would spend the extra $100 and go with the HYA. I love having the option to have the mower on without having the BLADES on. Also, some people don't like the Smart Drive on the VKA.

I don't know if getting a mower from Wise Sales would be a good idea, because it would almost like getting it from HD, because they wouldn't be able to service them. I would get it from a dealer....just my opinion.

Not a Honda dealer within a couple hour drive. Did find a end of the year at local store on HYA for $650 brand new. Using the "NEW ONE" now, still want to fix my honda blowing oil mower if not to costly. I ran it the other day for about 45 mins and it ran fine other than spitting out oil. Tried a compression check and got 65#, not sure yet what that means.

Can you post a pic of your "new one"?
