I'm new to the forum and could use some help. I have a Honda riding lawnmower H3011 H, hydrostatic with starter problems. Checked all of the safety switches and ignition switch all of which were okay. Pulled the starter and it failed a bench test. Solenoid works and 12.41 volts go to the starter but starter drive gear does not move up and motor does not whir into life. New starters run between $358 and $411. A bit more than I want to put into an older mower.

Wondering if anyone rebuilds this starter or if there are starter rebuild kits available out there.

Thanks.

Plano Power Equipment Online Store - Honda H3011HSA Common Parts

Take your starter apart, brushes are probably shot, and inspect all parts, solenoid, gear teeth, etc. A new set of brushes and new solenoid should take of it unless you find something else during inspection.

Hi Dave:

- Not aware of any aftermarket or OEM rebuild kits for this starter. Most of the component parts are still available from Honda, so if you can figure what exact/specific part(s) have failed, odds the original starter can be brought back to life (maybe). You may have a local shop that can do starter repairs/rebuilds, provided you can obtain get the new Honda parts.
- Attached are a few pages from the shop manual with more details, and also the parts listing for the starter motor.
- And the link to find a Honda dealer in your area. Beware, most shops are very busy this time of year, so be patient. Find A Honda Dealer

Thank you for the information and the attachments. It is a big help having something visual. Have pulled the starter apart and looks like the brushes are the likely problem.
