Hey guys,
Picking this up Thursday from a buddy of mine. Its not runnning, but was told it needs some carb work. Can anyone tell me which carb rebuild kit I would need to buy? Anything else you can tell me about these things? I appreciate the help!

Thanks
Adam

The carb on this GCV160 engine is very inexpensive (<$20) and I'd suggest cleaning out the fuel tank/tubes really, really good. Give it a good bath, install a new carb, gaskets, change the oil (10W-30) and probably a new spark plug. I'd guess the blade(s) is shot as well, so a new or re-sharpened one would be ideal.

With the serial number off the side of the engine (GXXXX-1234567) any Honda dealer can get you engine parts. You'd need to work with MTD (the actual mower mfg.) to get the blade and non-engine bits.

Here's where to find a Honda dealer who can get you parts:

I moved this thread to the Honda Forum and deleted the one that was there since it didn't have any replies.

Awesome. I was hoping a new carb would be cheap enough. Thanks for the help!

Could you post a link to the "(<$20)" carb. Thanks.

There are dozens of versions of the GCV160 engine, and the carburetor is close, but not identical, for each one. Some have manual chokes, other have AutoChoke, some have manual throttles, some have fixed throttles, some are for use on Honda mowers, other for non-Honda mowers, etc. There is no "universal" carb for this engine, but most do share a number of internal parts.

The only for sure way to get the correct carburetor is to get the exact part number for a specific engine. To do that, you have to look it up based on the serial number off the back of the Honda mower deck "MXXX-1234567" OR the serial number off the side of the engine block "GXXXX-1234567"

Get me either of those numbers and I can get you the exact carburetor part number and list price. Or, you can contact any Honda dealer and get his actual retail selling price.

Tip: Google the part number to find an online dealer, but beware, shipping charges may add to the final cost and it is often actually cheaper just to buy one from a local dealer and pay the sales tax. Faster too, as most will usually have a good assortment of these carburetors in stock (it is a popular / fast-moving part).
