Greetings folks,
I recently picked up a Honda 215 SX (MZAM-6141271) off Craigslist. I've rebuilt the carb and it runs beautifully, but the self propel doesn't work.
The clutch cable was cut by a careless handle fold at some point, but in replacing it I found that the lever acting on the knurled gear on the transmission was spinning freely. It seems like the splines on the transmission's knob are stripped. The splined shaft also seems to have a lot of travel- if I pull on it, the shaft will, with resistance, pull out a bit, revealing a snap ring. Looks like bad news.
I'm order to do anything with it, I'll need to pull the transmission (planned for later today). If anybody has any tricks on that, I'd appreciate it.
Can that splined shaft be replaced, or will it need a new transmission? Given the choice, I can probably weld a stud or something else to it for the cable to act on in the meantime. Any "approved" jerry-rig fixes here?
Thanks for your time!
