Welcome to LMF! Hope you are able to learn something useful and teach something as well. I'm always learning something new on here it seems. Never ran into an "English" mower...yet. Dave

Hello Dave , there is always something new to learn ,English mowers are just the same with Briggs and Honda engines but a lot of people over here love there stripes on lawns , so a roller instead of a rear set of wheels on a rotary mower and of course we still like our cylinder (reel) mowers which always gives a stripe ,Gary

You'd know it when you see it; compared to a US model, English mower handlebars are on the wrong side, and they mow on the left side of the lawn.:tongue:

I wish I had a mower with rollers on the back; it would create such nice stripes and I like lawn striping!

lmf,

C'mon now, I've seen your HRX's "debris guard flap". You do a good job striping "without' a roller:0)

Speaking of striping mowers....

In parts of Europe, striping is popular, so much so, that Honda makes a special commercial model just for that work; it's the HRD536QX:

"Polystrong" (a.k.a. composite) deck, single-speed self-propelled, blade clutch...the striping feature is fully built-in to the mower [not a bolt-on kit]...you gotta bag, too. No mulching. Still, it's a neat look for a lawn, and while not as broad as the stripes in a Major League Baseball outfield, still looks cool.

Had a customer once that said his Flymo hover wasnt working.
Went out to his garden and noticed it was soaking wet.
Then realised he tried to use it to cut his pond reeds and it kept sinking.
He thought there was a design flaw.

There is alot of roller mowers over your side.
A lot of football (sorry soccer) stadiums and sports arenas use the Hondas and Hayter Harriers to cut the pitch to get the stripes.
Its cheaper to use these than purchase the cylinder mowers.
You dont get as good a cut but the stripe is there.

As far as i can see they do not have a mulching mower with a roller ,i think its something to do with grass sticking to the roller . Gary

Wonder if Americans know that the "lawn" was an English invention, like the sandwich? I read upscale homes in London would show off their lot size by planting grass. Then Lord Sandwich would order up a quick meal to watch the grass grow. True?

I suppose in those days to grow something in your garden that you could not eat was considered very posh . Gary
