Generator Winter rider and snow blower battery and battery cable service.

What I see here is the use of el cleapo wire terminals failing that are corroded by sulfuric acid or by arcing from loose connections. I always replace them with cable lug terminals but that requires a hydraulic crimper. Now there is other half way crimpers out there; although, make lousy crimps.

Batteries do like in either cold or hot weather but they can fail at anytime. Case in point is where you crank up your vehicle in the morning, drive 25 miles to Tramlaw, Shut it down, then realize you parked on the wrong side of the parking lot. Then when you go start your engine nothing but a click. After getting a jump off and $200 later at the Auto Zone you're back in business. This one actually happen to me back in the Fall when I had replace my glasses due some big footed idiot crushed them. Guess who was the big footed idiot?

It was the third time this type of battery failure has happen to me. No warning signs.
I had an AGM battery fail under warranty @23 months, replaced it, and @21 months the second one started to start slow in the 40 degree weather - I used a charger designed for AGM batteries, and had a “recondition” mode, and after 12 hours on r”recondition”, it was operational once again. Luck? Maybe! AGM Charger fixed it? Maybe! “Recondition” fixed it? Maybe!

AGM batteries charge differently than flooded batteries - they charge slower at different rates of charge.

Actually Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries can be charged faster and discharged deeper. They are more robust than Flooded cell batteries. And of course they are spill resistant.

What is called Recondition Mode is a desulfation process that is the process of breaking down hard lead sulfate crystals that build up on the plates of a lead acid battery thus potentially restoring the battery performance. It uses specialize pulses or high voltage to do this.

Most vehicle and equipment batteries are on the store shelf longer than people realize.

The fake date sticker applied by the parts store means nothing.

It is the code melted into the side top of the battery that tells the truth of when it was produced. That code is tricky to read, and they make them that way on purpose. Most regular shop people do not even know how to read them.

AGM batteries are designed to be frequency pulse charged. That is why the "recondition mode" on the charger worked so well.... L&G equipment does not have that expensive charging technology yet. If anything, use that charging mode on the AGM battery a couple of times a year to increase its lifespan.

AGM battery advertising gives a false sense of longevity and security, but it is a great sales gimmick.

I have a Noco battery charger that has “repair mode”, however, it is only for lead acid batteries where you add water. It has successfully brought back several batteries in repair mode and highly recommended Noco.

I have used liquid electric tape on everything electrical on my salt water offshore fishing boat.
Never had an issue with anything.
But I also solder everything after crimp.
Try some marine grade heat shrink. Has adhesive inside that oozes out to seal the shrink up. Salt water is tough stuff.

Hello TSM,

I have 3 of the GB40 NOCO jump devices and a 5-Amp NOCO charger. They have been some great tools to have around. They have held up longer than any other brand I have tried.

The battery repair mode on the charger has worked well for me on several batteries.

I work on a lot of vehicles and small engine equipment, so they get put to good use.
