Has anyone had issues with this black plastic transaxle? I have had to drill the input rod two separate times and secure it when the factory one fails.
Also, this one on Husqvarna riding mower I have now from a customer will only work when you work the forward/reverse pedals back and forth by kicking it with your feet. Basically making it inoperable. Ten year old unit. I know these General transaxles are known for having problems. Linkage is not binding, belts and pulleys are good. Do you think it is an internal problem?
 
Are you kidding? So glad everybody got away from them.

And it is probably the worn inversion setup or rusted bearings along with lots of trash on top of the unit. Never been inside one as no parts are available for the part of the transaxle.

If I remember correctly, certain MFG's who used the plastic transmission had recalls, replacing them with metal transmissions. Do a Google search and see what's out there.

I know these transaxles are junky. Anyway, it turns out that a few hard chunks of grass has packed in above the steering sector gear. The forward/reverse pedal linkage runs next to the frame and the packed grass was causing all the problems. Got it cleared out and customer is picking up the mower today. A friend of mine in small engine repair gave me the suggestion.

I have read about this issue happening with grass packing in and causing the forward/reverse pedals to stick. However, have NEVER experienced it first hand. My friend who told me to check for grass debris buildup told me he sees this all the time.
