OK, I ran across this thread after it had somehow evolved from a question about "Affordable Health Care" to a podium for political slander towards others' personal views/convictions. OK.....in an attempt to get this thread back on topic, let me give some feedback from an IT professional who worked over 13 years on Tennessee's variation to State-regulated Medicaid programs lovingly referred to as Tenncare. Now I'm not talking "Medicare", so let's keep the Feds completely out of any responses to my post....THANK YOU VERY MUCH:0)
Although, the waiver/permission TN received was directly from the then called HCFA(the Feds who mandate Medicaid and subsidize it with matching Federally dollars), this was a state(that I was born & raised in 62 years ago) attempt to venture where no other state had ever dared......provide health insurance coverage for (A) ALL children not having coverage, (B)ALL Unisured TN citizens that have income above the poverty level(required for Medicaid eligibility) but do not have coverage and (C)ALL Uninsurable TN citizens that have cancer, etc. where a "private insurance company" will NOT provide a policy for coverage.......PERIOD. Now "THAT", opposed to Obamacare(if that's what we want to call the Affordable Health Care Act) is an attempt at a REAL solution. Sadly, 18 years after it's conception/inception, TENNCARE is a complete failure. Why do you ask? Well let me tell you why.....the (B)Unisured population....yeah like you guys(self-employed, etc.) that are asking about signing up for the current Feds solution were "supposed to" pay a Monthly Premium(a sliding fee based upon Income and family size, and myself being privvy to the rates I can say these were "fair premiums") found out if they didn't pay their premiums HCFA would not allow TN to kick them of the Medicaid(Tenncare) program. An activist lawyer defended them and they simply did NOT pay their premiums(and remained a little more wealthy)!!! I'm talking about self-employed "rich TN residents" with $200,000 homes that WOULD NOT pay a $400/month premium(this was by design revenue that would allow the State of TN to provide coverage to ALL children and uninsurable citizens who insurance companies refused to cover). Of course even those just above the poverty level followed the lead and the "revenue" to make Tenncare work(from Uninsured/Uninsurable premiums) didn't happen causing a reverting to a program that was just like every other state's Medicaid program(all of them on the brink of eating their state budgets alive). Soooooooo, all that being said, what do you think about Tennessee's effort to provide "affordable health care" and the "rich uninsured" causing it to fail. If the Affordable Health Care Act fails.........somehow I personally believe that it will be the same underlying reason(the indifference of the 2% of this nations population that are rich and want to CONTROL everything that happens). I consider the failure of the Tenncare solution to be squarely on the shoulders of greedy rich "politicians"(maybe not in the sense of holding an office, but nonetheless opportunistic just like hardcore Democrats and Republicans). Do you feel a little shame towards this nations values now????????????????
