I have a T2290 that needs a drive belt replaced w/216 hrs. on it. I went to my local Kubota dealer and got a quote to fix my mower. $1,520.00 to fix it. The labor rate was $150 hour. That's insane. I think that a 3 1/2 year old mower should not have to have a new drive belt replaced. Based on what I've reading on the forums this is a common problem with this mower. Since you can not get a shop manual, does anyone know the easiest way to replace the belt? How hard is it to remove the deck?

I did a little reading about this just now online. Apparently the deck needs to be removed and the back wheels jacked up to make job easier. There is a steel plate underneath that needs to be removed. I find it hard to believe it takes 10 hours labor to install a $30-40 drive belt. Go to another shop for help or attempt it yourself.

I am see references to a dog leg in the belt next to the engine pulley and that the engine has to be removed as well as the engine mounting plate to access those pulleys. Looks like 5 hours labor to replace belt in those applications.

Yes the deck has to come off, 4 mounting points and the deck belt. PTO clutch most likely needs removing. The rest is base on your experience as for how it takes and which way you remove and install the drive belt plus idler pulleys that might need replacing. Depending how fast you are but I see up to 4 hours for me as it would be my first time.
Now you can get a digital copy of the T2290KW-AU version which likely the same unit for $33.00. I even seen a CD-ROM disc for sale at a little higher price at $60.

The Kubota dealer was charging me 8 hours of labor on the quote. I have ordered all the parts. The belt and the 3 pulleys. I'm going to order the shop manual, and hope it has torque specifications in it. I was reading on another forum that the steering column, and steering linkage has to be removed. I talked to one of the mechanics at the dealer, and he said they are a bi*ch to replace. He said I was lucky that it lasted this long. Most don't last past 2 years. There needs to be a class action suit on Kubota for a piss poor design. I think I will be selling this mower once it's fixed. I'm not going through this every 2 years. Thanks for the replies.
My question is how are you getting the tractor up high enough to safely work under it?

I have completed the belt replacement after being down for a month. I replaced the belt along with the 3 pulleys, and tension spring. All new OEM parts. This was the worst designed by Kubota. The engineer that designed this belt setup needs to be hung. After all this time the 2 pulleys up by the right front are squealing. I have taking these two pulleys apart 5 times, and even put on the old pulleys, and the same thing.
The belt is not squealing, it's the pulleys. I have the factory Kubota shop manual which is totally worthless. No where does it say how to replace belt and pulleys. No torque specs., nothing. Has anyone run into this problem after changing the drive belt? Much help will be appreciated. I need to get this fixed, as I am selling this mower. I am not going to go through this every 2 years.

If we assume the bearings roll normally, is there a chance that either directionally the belt is fed through the complex on the wrong sides of the idlers? Or that one or more of the three front pulleys were installed inverted? I didn't see where anyone here had done one of these. Hopefully you'll get this wrapped up soon and share what you've learned.
