I have a 2008 LA135 with a 22hp b&g engine is it safe to use 15w-40 motor oil or use something else?:newhere:

In my opinion NO, use the weight which is recommended in the users manual. Briggs run great on 30W in the summer and 10W-30 in the cold weather.

I've use Rotella 15w40 in every engine I've owned for decades... never a problem, never had to rebuild an engine and some are over 30 years old.

I use sae30 weight all year, and never had any trouble

Your owners manual should recommend 10w-30. I'm just curious, but why would you want to use 15w-40? And one more thing, believe it or not, but I can buy John Deere oil and filters cheaper at my dealer than most brand name car oils and Briggs filters around here.

use 30w oil in a side valve B&S engine and 10w30 in a OHV B&S engine.
