15w-40

In my opinion NO, use the weight which is recommended in the users manual. Briggs run great on 30W in the summer and 10W-30 in the cold weather.

I've use Rotella 15w40 in every engine I've owned for decades... never a problem, never had to rebuild an engine and some are over 30 years old.

Your owners manual should recommend 10w-30. I'm just curious, but why would you want to use 15w-40? And one more thing, believe it or not, but I can buy John Deere oil and filters cheaper at my dealer than most brand name car oils and Briggs filters around here.
