    Brand loyalty?

Bert (and anyone else with advice!) I want to replace my Toro SS 4260. Based on your advice regarding Toro for residential mowers, staying with Toro sounds good to me. It looks like a new Timecutter with a 42 inch deck is only available with the Kohler engine. Would that be a dealbreaker for you?

Are mulching blades about the same?

I lived in Hobbs, NM for 3 years. After moving back to Montgomery county, TX, I will NEVER cut down another tree :p

Are mulching blades about the same?

I have the Toro kit (on my Toro ;);)) and it provides a very level, clean cut.

Thanks! p.s.……..that POS tee is already loose. I guess I’m lucky LOL.

Toro ss4260 oil change - drain setup !

Agree. As I recall, the Kawasaki engine was the only one for that model. Which is the engine I wanted anyway. Yeah I plan to cut off that stupid effing Barbed T and then unscrew what’s left of the POS fitting. p.s. I suspect you are correct on the potential dealer methods lol.

Toro ss4260 oil change - drain setup !

Perfect! mine is the Kawasaki engine with that same POS fitting. I was thinking the same thing - I'd have to cut off the barb to turn the fitting. It will be worth it. Thanks again !

Toro ss4260 oil change - drain setup !

I would love to know which imbecile designed the oil drain system and where they got their mail order engineering degree. It's a level of dumbassery I've almost never seen. You slip a hose onto the barbed tee fitting (in cramped space) open the long plug, etc etc.... I'm thinking of replumbing...

    Great ethanol warning

Be sure to aks the right questions when buying Ethanol Free free fuel at a marina. . Around here I found out that several Marinas on Lake Conroe had Ethanol in the fuel, but they just added a shit ton of additives for that. Our local QT also sells 90 octane E free.

    Great ethanol warning

I run the carb dry on my 15 y.o. Honda powered Black Max generator. I run it once a quarter (that prolly helps). It usually starts on first pull. Third pull never needed. I know some have added a (tiny little lol) cut off valve on their weed eater or blower for that reason.

    Great ethanol warning

I agree with all of that except the reason behind the .gov mandates for ethanol in fuel. It is for the PERCEPTION that we will import less oil, but in reality, it is to buy Midwestern votes. cheers.

    Great ethanol warning

Does cold weather make it worse (even for E0)? I live in the Houston area and never seem to have issues. Just to be safe, I do run E0 in all of my 2 cycle stuff.

Toro SS4260 transaxle - how to add oil?

Success! A big thanks to @ILENGINE and @StarTech! Thank you so much. The manuals helped BIGLY! It’s a bit aggravating to have to completely remove the transaxle to get to the fill plug, but so be it. Otherwise, the Toro is a great unit, and the manuals have very good detail. The old seal...

Toro SS4260 transaxle - how to add oil?

Thanks for the quick responses gents! My apologies for not describing the seal better. It's item 41. I ordered the part yesterday. Now I see it may be part of a "kit" (pn 160 - seal and rig kit"). If you don't mind, I have 2 questions: 1. it appears to only be leaking at that one spot. Do I...

    Toro SS4260 timecutter burning grass!

Interesting, I have a 2011 model SS4260 and have never noticed it, but I rarely park it on the grass while running. I’ll have test that scenario out.

Toro 4260 - Kawasaki FR651V acts like it's running out of fuel

update: I almost returned the spark plug test lights. Then I thought about how readily Amazon will accept returns (i.e. with no questions asked - more or less). So I went ahead and used them. Even though the bulb is clear, the spark indication is red/orange and it was fairly easy to see in the...

Toro 4260 - Kawasaki FR651V acts like it's running out of fuel

Scrub, sometimes it will start immediately. Other times, 60 sec wait does the trick. It does always turn over. Just now I started it up, turned on the mower and let it run at 90% throttle for 20 minutes, and of course it ran great I did try the “coil check” while hot (Pulling one spark plug...

Toro 4260 - Kawasaki FR651V acts like it's running out of fuel

2011 model. It starts up and runs fine. After a while, it's starts to sputter and tries to die. It sounds exactly like my generator or pressure washer when I shut them down by running the carburetor dry. That's why I think it's a fuel issue (although you can never rule out ignition). About 2 out...

Timecutter 4260: where to buy replacement - front wheel assembly

Hello. I need to replace one front wheel and tire. The Toro distributor wants $100 for the wheel and $100 for the tire! I see lots of options out there from mower parts suppliers. Anyone know of a good source? I'll buy 2 if I need to get a matched set.

TC SS4260 mower deck bearings growling

Well, since they were not "grease-able" I figured they would not last that long. I've had it for 6 years. As soon as I engage the mower, there's a lot of growling /rumbling. I assume its the bearings /spindles that drive the blades - whatever the right name is. Anyone replace these?

    timecutter hub grease zerts........

Mine is an SS 4260, 2 years old. I'm pretty sure the (blade / rotor) hubs can't be greased. Has anyone ever drilled and tapped them and added grease zerts ?

Timecutter SS4260: a couple of maint. questions

I bought it last summer and LOVE it! I have already had to grease the front wheel bearings (using the grease zert) a couple of time because I could hear it squealing. 1. Do I need to grease anything else? What about the blade hubs? 2. what is the rec tire pressueres F/R ? 3. Is there a way to...
