    First time carb pressure test

Well, I replaced the carb, and learned some about the tool. I'll play with the old carb and have it for a spare. That works for me.

    First time carb pressure test

So, I tried again on the replacement carb. I wet the needle and seat and tested with 7 psi. It held for 45 minutes before I quit. Left that out yesterday.

    Surprise Fuel Leak!

In my experience, fuel leaking from primer bulb is coming from a cracked primer bulb.

    First time carb pressure test

So, I put in the new carb, and removed some panels to clean the cooling fins. It wasn't too bad, there were some leaves and dirt in there, but it's clean now Slomo.

Victa Mustang 18 Ultima 4 stroke 5 hp (1994) carburetor gasket set or carburetor replacement?

What do you get if you pull the fuel line off the carb? Does it flow freely, or does it drip? You've done a bunch with the carb, but haven't said anything about fuel lines/tank.

    First time carb pressure test

I don't know how much pressure, but it sure swells up those plastic fuel cans. Got my new carb. Tested inverted, after 10 minutes or so at 5psi, I could see I was losing some pressure. I remember someone said needle needs to be wet, so I pulled the bowl, wet the needle and seat, and tried...

No spark from the plug but strong spark from the coil.

Thanks for letting us know. The light bulb testers don't require much to set them off. It's a clue, when it doesn't light up when the tester is connected to plug wire then spark plug(installed or grounded, but does if connected to wire and ground. Wired through the plug, it has to actually...

I will try it. Thanks, I should have thought of flitz.

    First time carb pressure test

Thanks. I tried cleaning with plastic brushes from a carb cleaning tool. If I had a skinny enough pencil eraser... I've ordered a carb, and I already have the one I pulled off the other mower, so I've got spare parts. This one works fine, it just leaks at the bowl seal.

    snapper zero turn clutch testing

So, coming back to this guy... I redid the belts, battery was dead, ran out of time. My brother tried charging the battery and had no luck. I went back and brought a good battery. Since the machine had hydrolocked, I changed the oil before trying to start. It did not turn the motor or click...

Doesnt want to climb hills any more, need help (please)

I feel like the belts stretch eventually, but have heard they don't. They definitely wear, and become looser. Is there an idler or tension pulley? Is it working? There's usually a spring pulling on the pulley to provide tension. What do the pulley's look like? Some are plastic and wear out.

    Not starting with new battery

So, what happens when you turn the key? Does it turn over? If not, electrical. Check safety switches. If you bought it new, you should know about them. Make sure battery is connected properly. Check voltage at solenoid. There is a terminal on solenoid that goes straight to battery, the...

    First time carb pressure test

It's a CRAFTSMAN 247.290001, but I'm really trying to learn here, rather than get too deep into this machine. I had 2 of them, and will replace the carb on this one. I appreciate the info on seats, just never saw one of these seats that looked replaceable. This one looks straight brass. I'm...

    First time carb pressure test

Makes sense. If it's replaceable is it like the main jet in the center and unscrews? I don't think I've seen one like that, but I wasn't looking for it either.

The seat was not replaced. How do you do it?

    First time carb pressure test

Thanks, I should have know the needle needs to be wet. It still failed the second test. I had 2 of these mowers, and replaced the carb on the other. I will replace this one, I don't want it contaminating the oil.

    First time carb pressure test

After about 20 minutes total, the fuel level has dropped 2 inches. So my float leaks a bit, at least with inverted carb. I don't know how hard it compresses the spring with the float in a full bowl, in comparison to inverted carb. As I said earlier, I'm not really having trouble with the...

    First time carb pressure test

Ok, I removed the carb and bowl. I cleaned the needle and seat. I reassembled needle and float, inverted, hooked up pressure tester, and gave it 5lbs. I can see the needle slowly moving down. The needle has a spring between it and the float. If I press on the float, compressing the spring...

    Cub Cadet XT1 Won't Start

Yes Slomo, it's best to fix the safety switch. In my case, it's a safety switch on the chute, to make sure it's installed, I guess. The plastic chute stretched, and doesn't reliably engage switch. I am willing to accept this risk on my machine.:). If the plunger is pressed, hopefully it is...

    Cub Cadet XT1 Won't Start

I don't know about your machine, but many have safety switches on the bag/chute. They often don't line up properly after some time. I've had to disable a couple that wouldn't work reliably. Check for switch wires/plungers, where the bag/chute connects.

    XT1, 7000 series

What type of spark checker? Have you checked both cylinders to see if there's a difference? How do the plugs look? Do you have history with this machine, or is this machine "new" to you? If you have history, did this problem just show up after the machine laid up for the winter? Looking for...

    Partszen Carb Leak Detector

I saw this on Amazon and bought it, after seeing many here recommending pressure testing carbs. It came with no instructions. I searched online but haven't found it yet. I can see how to use it to test for leaking float valve. Easy enough, hook up to fuel inlet on carb, apply pressure(turn on...

No spark from the plug but strong spark from the coil.

It sounds like the connection between the tester and spark plug, and potentially the plug connection. Look into the connectors, make sure they connect well. Do you have a multimeter? Can you check resistance from spark plug connector through the coil, then connect spark plug and check from...

    chain saw chain recommendations?

True, but it was free. I was surprised how well it did cutting up the oak tree. It beats the heck out of a 16" 2 stroke my buddy has. I think his clutch is slipping, and the high speed mixture may be off. We picked it up out of father in law's garage, no telling how long since it got real...

    chain saw chain recommendations?

How about Husqvarna brand chains? I see tons of 3-5 packs cheap on Amazon. Selling chains in a 5 pack gives me no confidence it'll stay sharp for long. The Husqvarna comes in a 1 pack.

Stumped, slow start, jumps to full throttle

DId you check fuel lines? Someone said they looked original. Did you check fuel flow at carb? Remove fuel line at carb and see if it is free flowing. An inline filter could be clogged, or crud in tank clogging the output. It kind of sounds like dirty tank to me. While mowing, the crud in...

    chain saw chain recommendations?

Thank you all. I am oiling, filling the reservoir multiple times a day. When I see smoke from the chain/bar, I stop. When I said the saw was smoking, I was talking about the motor. Yes, the chain I bought was Oregon S62. I'll do a bit more research, and also check if my bar is bent. Working...

    chain saw chain recommendations?

I have a Ryobi 18" electric chain saw. It was free. I feel like the chain dulls quickly. I put a new chain on, Oregon brand from Home Depot. I spent a day cutting up oak from a tree I had cut down, and the chain seemed dull. I was dealing with the stump, and tried sharpening, and had some...

FG110 Tiller intermittently will not accelerate enough to turn tines

You cleaned the carb, what about fuel filters/lines? What about gunk in the fuel tank? Have you tested the spark, especially when it's acting up? What about the throttle cables? Do the work consistently? I've seen throttle cables that don't move consistently, due to drag, or improper...

    KT725-3055 Smoking Badly

If you hydro lock, fuel gets in the oil, and raises the level leading to smoking. Forgot to mention that.

    KT725-3055 Smoking Badly

You may have had a hydro lock. If the carb leaks, it can get enough fuel in the cylinder that it won't turn over. Pull the dipstick and smell it. Does it smell like fuel? If so, change the oil. Some advise to change it several times, after each mow when it has been hydrolocked. I would...

That's the pic from the manual, but the idler pully taper doesn't work like that. Hmmm.

    snapper zero turn clutch testing

I put the idler pulley on the inside, and put a little bracket on one of the bolts through the side, and hooked the idler pulley to it. It's a new belt reasonably tight without the pulley. We'll see how it goes as the belt wears.

    snapper zero turn clutch testing

Ok, heading back out tomorrow. I got an idler pulley, and it looks just like the one I removed, though not as worn. The edges of the pulley were worn down a good bit. Looking at the pulley, it seems like the taper will fit best if the pulley is on the inside of the belt. I searched online...

    snapper zero turn clutch testing

Man, I'd already left, missed that. My brother can take pics. We'll see what happens. The engine to clutch belt is so tight, the idler pulley is useless, even if I knew where to put it. It also seems to be wrong. It's a tapered pulley, but installed as the docs show, the pulley will push in...

craftsman 4 stroke weedeater, 31679191 hard to start

Thanks guys. I have a 2 stroke that I bought new maybe 3 years ago. I just was given this one, and running it because I never saw a 4stroke engine that small.

craftsman 4 stroke weedeater, 31679191 hard to start

Thanks, that is essentially how I've been starting it, but without squeezing throttle. If I give it throttle, it does not start. When it starts, if I add throttle, it dies. After a little warmup, I put choke in position 3 and I can give it throttle, and it runs fine.

craftsman 4 stroke weedeater, 31679191 hard to start

I'll look at it tomorrow. I don't think it's gravity fed, as the tank is under the engine, which is the norm for weed eaters, as far as I know.

Heading out tomorrow to revisit this one. Replace belts and hook up that spring StarTech gave us a picture of. We tried asking someone who works there to get model #, but no dice. I'll get that tomorrow.
