Agree with the others, normal sump fill oil. Besides that ancient tub of magic has probably had all the solvents and oils dry up and turn into some other goo like stuff. I'd toss it in the can. Stuff doesn't last forever.

You better be pulling the engine shroud off looking for more mice apartments in/on/around the flywheel fan fins and so on. Clean the cooling fins while you are there. Heard that is pretty important to an air cooled engine.

Don't count on it. ATF. no not a good idea in an air cooled engine. There is no engine manual on this planet that says to add ATF or any other snake oil to the oil sump. Tell your friend they need to read more.

Let me guess, a bulb type spark tester.

Spray it into an 18 wheeler engine and watch the head lift off the block. Also washes all the oil off the cylinder walls. For cars, trucks and mowers, shoot 2 stroke mix in. Much safer than Ether and brake cleaner. Also easier on the wallet.
