b/s only runs with choke fully closed

Pull and flush the gas tank, tank only no fuel lines. Clean it inside and out. Clean, as in hospital clean. FILL with Diesel. Test for fat flow out of the tank into a glass jar. This will test two things. One is proper fat flow OUT of the tank AND the tank vent cap IS or ISN'T venting proper...

You both know, they are/were waaaaay over torqued, smashed to smithereens, leaking like my wallet. :D

    Lubing

Dog, that 20055 super recic was one of the best mowers Toro has made. Al-u'-min-i-um deck as the Britt's say. Light weight and easy to turn around. Personal Pace can't be beat. My pops had one that was cherry. Looked brand new after 20 plus years of mowing. Valve seat sprung out of the block. I...

Valve Guide Lube / Pulled the head off to adjust valves, opinion plz of photos 2nd day

Agree with the others, normal sump fill oil. Besides that ancient tub of magic has probably had all the solvents and oils dry up and turn into some other goo like stuff. I'd toss it in the can. Stuff doesn't last forever.

    Lubing

I'd pull the rear trans apart. Some Diesel and an old paint brush. Clean off and out, all the old dead grease that has dried out over the decades. Refill with Snapper 00 grade grease. It's a pudding like consistency. Heavy enough not to run out but liquid enough to flow back to the gears. Works...

Sabo lawnmower with Briggs & Stratton engine won't start when warm

It slows silly. What do you think it would do?? LOL :p :p (y) If you add enough water and RPM's, will steam clean the inside of the combustion chamber and valves too.

    B&S 550 EX stopped - won't restart

Bought from where specifically? Scamazon or Fleabay? Best to buy plugs from a local auto parts store. Sounds a little fat to me. If that is what your engine spec is then so be it. I would regap at 0.006" and test it.

    B&S 550 EX stopped - won't restart

Just drain the tank and carb bowl. Only holds about a quart max if full. Not like you are dumping out a fuel tank on a container ship. Fresh non Ethanol 87 octane gas if you can get it.

First time opening an engine, a couple questions

If you are seeing white smoke, DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE. White smoke tells me there is a LOT of gas in the oil. Gasoline will dilute the oil viscosity down to 0. Fix the carb needle/seat first. THEN do an oil and filter dump if you have one, after every mow, 3 times. Need to get all the gas out...

First time opening an engine, a couple questions

White smoke is either fuel or coolant. Most mower engines are air cooled. Is this water cooled? Did you pull the emulsion tube? Pressure test the carb needle/seat at 7psi for 30+ minutes? Tells me you missed something in the testing. If the needle was holding, should be no excess gas in the...

D130 carburetor solenoid 12V power issue

Oh if you start feeding the mice a block of cheese, they won't chew on your mower wires. Toss out a big bag of trail mix. Maybe a jug of Coke while you are at it. They tend to get thirsty.

D130 carburetor solenoid 12V power issue

You better be pulling the engine shroud off looking for more mice apartments in/on/around the flywheel fan fins and so on. Clean the cooling fins while you are there. Heard that is pretty important to an air cooled engine.

No Oil Change In 5 Years: Kawasaki 17HP V-Twin. Now what?

Don't count on it. ATF. no not a good idea in an air cooled engine. There is no engine manual on this planet that says to add ATF or any other snake oil to the oil sump. Tell your friend they need to read more.

No Oil Change In 5 Years: Kawasaki 17HP V-Twin. Now what?

If it has or takes oil, it WILL NEED TO BE CHANGED. Ooops, just let the secret out. Stunned by the question of should I change the oil or not? Only holds what 1.5 quarts total? Not like you are draining and refilling a container ship engine.

FR691V can I reuse this scored cylinder?

How much is a lot. Total fog out or a little plume of blue smoke? I would hone the sucker. Scrub the bore about 5 times with hot soapy water. Wipe out/off with WD-40. Reassemble and run it. Run her till she locks up or worse. Nothing to lose.

Sabo lawnmower with Briggs & Stratton engine won't start when warm

Pull the fuel line off AT the carb inlet. Should have a steady fat flow of gas. Drain the entire tank into a large glass jar. A small trickle is a red flag. Could have water in it or the tank cap vent might not be working.

Sabo lawnmower with Briggs & Stratton engine won't start when warm

To me it is working as normal. I see all that flopping around. Fact is that arm is not on bearings and won't move smoothly.

Sabo lawnmower with Briggs & Stratton engine won't start when warm

Where and when did everyone use brake cleaner for anything other than brakes? Stop buying that junk. It's very hard on the lungs. If you can smell it, your lungs are full of it as well. Think about it. You can use free water in a squirt bottle and do the very same thing. Way cheaper and less...

Sabo lawnmower with Briggs & Stratton engine won't start when warm

WHERE did the plug come from specifically? This will require testing. Tossing on new parts means zero these days. Test what you have BEFORE buying new parts. Need an open gap style spark tester. One that you can adjust or alter/change the gap size to stress the coil out. Also test for spark in...

Sabo lawnmower with Briggs & Stratton engine won't start when warm

Yes there are specs. Yes that engine can have the valve clearance checked. On an engine this old, betting the valves have never been looked at. Guessing it needs a full de-carboning as well. All this and a lot more in your engine manual. Lap the valve in. Lap head and area where the head sits on...

Sabo lawnmower with Briggs & Stratton engine won't start when warm

I see you are testing here. Wanted to point out, not to run the engine long without the top shroud. It directs cooling air around the block and cooling fins. Don't want you to burn the engine up. 2 minutes running without the shroud is too long. I would say at the 1 minute mark she needs...

possible hydrogear zt3100 noise (video linked)??

I would start, with a good CLEANING, of the machine. You have so much packed up debris and dirt not helping anything on top and below. Really need to drive it into a swimming pool at high speed. My friend, take a leaf blower or shop air at the minimum to attempt a cleaning at every mow. Power...

New doesn't mean new these days. Put your credit card away and TEST what you have. 6 pages now with no resolution. You are not listening to anyone on here. Popping sound

Need to smack some aluminum material over the valve seat to hold it in. Kind of stake it in there..... Need to ask WHY the valve seat popped out? Ever clean the cooling fins? Ever? Great time to de-carbon the cylinder too. Do a valve job and set the valve clearance. Lap the head and block...

Turns over won't start 102 hrs on it

Spray it into an 18 wheeler engine and watch the head lift off the block. Also washes all the oil off the cylinder walls. For cars, trucks and mowers, shoot 2 stroke mix in. Much safer than Ether and brake cleaner. Also easier on the wallet.

    Is it a fuel pump?

Pull the fuel line off AT the carb inlet. Drain into a glass jar. Look for a nice fat flow AND water at the bottom of the jar. No fat flow = bad pump. Water seen = dump entire fuel system including carb bowl. Do a fuel system refresh. Pull and CLEAN the tank like a new one. FLOW test it with...

    Bolt size?

First thing would be take pictures of the ENGINE and mower numbers for future reference. Look at say 13-19 hp Briggs single cylinders in a parts list. Should be, all the same. Two longer shouldered ones and two shorter ones in the front or head side of the block. Best to reference YOUR engine...

Cub Cadet 33" walk-behind mower deck belt very loose

    Surging motor on NEW carb!?

IF you had an open gap style tester, you would of found your answer long ago. You would see a tiny orange zip when you needed a blue SNAP. Here is a good cheap one off Fleabay. I have one, it works for what I need. Also have the PET-4000 Cadillac top of the line tester. This one is 8 bucks to...

2020 toro time cutter keeps shutting off.

I can't nail down a time either. Only add that the alcohol has to dry the line out continually. Modern day cars and trucks have stainless fuel lines if they are flex fuel types. I think all the engine manufacturers claim E-10 is okay to keep selling engines in areas where all you have it...
