Long-term Storage of Silicone Gasket Maker?

Yes, gotta' have it. Ordered a sump on ebay and it came like this. A simple gasket can't be trusted to permanently seal this:

Long-term Storage of Silicone Gasket Maker?

This is not a Briggs question but I don't see a forum here for general questions. I get a tube of silicone gasket maker, use a tenth or less of it, put the tube away and find it hardened months later when I need it again and have to buy another tube. So, has anyone here ever come up with a...

    Repeat Carburetor Problems

Will do. I let the mower run for hours at night until it emptied the tank. Today, I put in gas from the same container as before, wet the air cleaner with starting fluid and it started right up and ran perfectly while I cut the back yard. I parked it, let it sit for about a quarter minute and...

    Repeat Carburetor Problems

Thanks for reading and the suggestions. To answer the questions: Mine is Ruixing as that name is in relief in the casting. Replacement is OEM, cost $107.40 when I bought it a year ago. So far, no Chinese junk. Before I replaced the original, I tried disassembly and cleaning but no change...

Briggs Engine Model 31S877 0001 G1 160418ZD, OEM Carburetor 594593 It does this every few seconds, sometimes four and five in a row. It's like the ignition has been turned off, then immediately back on before it stops spinning. Listen to attachment. Additional Info: I cut the yard about...

Briggs Engine Model 31S877 0001 G1 160418ZD, OEM Carburetor 594593, Needle 594868 I'm sure this mower hasn't more than a hundred hours on it and I have not used ethanol fuel since replacing the carburetor a year ago with a genuine OEM carburetor. I replaced the carburetor less than a year...

    Question about parts cleaner chemical

Yes, I'm afraid that might be the same thing I run into. A lot of regulations have come in since 1980.

    Question about parts cleaner chemical

Back in about 1980 through about 1984, I serviced mowers and bought five gallons of carburetor cleaner in a six-gallon bucket with basket. At the time, it was the most expensive brand (about $60 in 1980 would be about $220 today) BUT it cleaned anything and everything and in four or five years...

    A question about Stens

I see a couple of carburetors on ebay that are advertised as Stens and are at very low prices. My understanding is that Stens makes OEM carburetors for Briggs. Any reason I should not get one of these? Links below. Oregon Stens

Need advice on installing crankshaft lower seal.

The oil is definitely coming out from the shaft seal. I replaced that seal last year and it did OK until a plastic bag I didn't see got wrapped around the shaft, then started leaking again. I had totally forgotten oil dye existed; thanks for reminding me.

Need advice on installing crankshaft lower seal.

That was my concern from the beginning. I'll watch for that as best I can. I installed dozens of these back in the early 80s but have forgotten most of what I knew back then.

I picked up a one-inch PVC today at Home Depot, tried it on for size and it is near perfect. I'll know something when the seals get here.

Need advice on installing crankshaft lower seal.

Thanks for the reply. I thought of those things but was worried it might damage the seal as the installation is a precise process. I'm glad to hear from someone else that maybe I should not worry so much about it. I just now ordered three genuine Briggs replacement seals (in case I screw it...

Husqvarna RZ3016 seat safety switch does not work.

The only condition under which it works as it should is when the seat switch is moved from under the seat, held in my hand and it is operated manually by pressing and releasing the button with my finger. When I press the button, the engine starts and runs as it should. When I release the...

Husqvarna RZ3016 seat safety switch does not work.

I bought this mower new back in 2016 and due to my not thoroughly checking it out, the seat safety switch has NEVER worked and was out of warranty before I realized it. So, a year or so ago, I replaced the switch but that changed nothing. The only time that switch functions is when I take it...

Simple, it's what all the mower engine manufacturers recommend. It's not an obsession, it's just what is recommended.

Can't find 30W oil anywhere in my area, or on line.

I am not an oil expert and claim no degrees in chemistry or engineering so that is my disclaimer. But when it comes to oil, I have used only Castrol in all my cars and changed at 3K even though the manufacturer said every 5K. I used Castrol in one of my Siennas that I took to 348K and was...

Can't find 30W oil anywhere in my area, or on line.

Thanks to everyone. I found Pennzoil 30W on e-bay for a reasonable price and ordered three quarts. As for Briggs branded, Kawasaki, etc., I don't have confidence in those. Oil is just a sideline for them, AND they sell it in smaller packages at higher prices.

Can't find 30W oil anywhere in my area, or on line.

I'm looking for Castrol 30W oil and cannot find it anywhere, on-line or locally. I've checked AutoZone, Advance, O'Reilly, Walmart, Lowe's and Home Depot. So I decided to try for other brands, brands I recognize, not this cheap unknown stuff. The only straight 30W I can find is Super Tech but...

10 Year Old Raptor Bogging Down

I haven't been a mower mechanic since about 1982 and I have no knowledge of your specific machine but when I see a mower lose power in the way you describe, the first two things I check are valve adjustment and ignition timing. In the case if ignition timing, what I mean is to check for a...

Seat safety switch has never worked, even when brand new.

Agreed about the lawyer but at the time I had a son who owned an HVAC company and he could have replaced the whole unit with new for $1570 and having homeowner's insurance with $1000 deductible, I decided to not risk an increase in my homeowner's insurance premium. They ALWAYS increase the rate...

Seat safety switch has never worked, even when brand new.

Husqvarna RZ3016 (zero turn) When this mower was about two months old (in about 2016), I had a harrowing experience, ran off an eighteen-inch retaining wall. My butt slid off the seat down onto the foot pad area and the mower didn't even slow down, ran into and destroyed $6000+ worth of AC...

Husqvarna RZ3016 zero-turn mower I'm posting this for the purpose of helping someone else who might have a similar problem. I had an intermittent no-crank-no-click problem that eventually became full time. I suspected a safety switch so I ordered one of every kind of switch and began testing...

    Husqvarna RZ3016 Zero-turn Unavailable Belt

Coming back to let everyone know how this problem came out. First off, I originally had the wrong parts manual for my mower. My mower's number was 966612301 04. I had the parts manual for 966612301 (sans 04). After getting the correct parts manual, the parts manual for the 04 iteration, I...

I got a new, undamaged, unused, never-opened Craftsman blade for two cents at Lowe's.

I got a new, undamaged, unused, never-opened Craftsman blade for two cents at Lowe's.

About twenty years ago, I was reworking the head on my car's engine and decided to clean the engine entirely. I went to a locally-owned parts store and could not find any of the products I was used to using. I asked the clerk and he highly recommended something called Super Tuff (sold under...

Should I doubt this part's genuineness?

This EZT belt that came today was advertised as "Genuine Husqvarna Belt 539120806 30 Zezt" but doesn't look like my spare never-used OEM deck belt (585054001) that I bought two years ago. The deck belt looks sorta' like ladies' stocking material was melded into its surface, giving it sort of a...

Need help finding a specialized tool and part

Yes, when I had my shop, I used it several times. Since posting here, I've looked at the cost of reamers and it seems they float around $70 and up so I'll look into getting a new sump. It's quite an old push-type string trimmer on two wheels so a sump probably isn't available.

Need help finding a specialized tool and part

I have a Briggs engine that the bottom shaft bushing is worn out. I know there is no bushing there but that's the best I know how to describe it. 40 years ago when I had my little mower shop, I had a reamer that I used to ream out that hole and then drive in a brass bushing and seal and put it...
