What riding mower is this on, and what is the engine model number? We can't read your mind :LOL:. Usually briggs do that when the battery is weak. I would try that first.

I have had times where an engine of mine won't start without starter fluid. It seems to go away after I use the machine for a while, just get everything flowing again. You could also look at your fuel pump, they commonly fail and sometimes pump very miserably instead of fully stopping.

I have a Kohler 7000 series and yeah, it does take a few seconds to start. Normal, I dunno, but doesn't seem to be problematic. I was able to fix this issue by installing a 1 psi electric fuel pump, and then It has been starting without even needing choke. And that abrupt stop is probably from...

Okay so, I don't know if this may help, but I do have multiple aftermarket carbs for this that came with another mower I purchased, so I do have lots of spare carb parts. Anyway, the model numbers on the new walbro carb is (3 1292 3205328). I do have another used walbro that I haven't tried...
