Craftsman T-240 Deck Spindle Grease

The grease may indeed make its way past the rubber seals from grease being pumped into the spindle. But rest assured: The inside of the spindle is not seeing 8,000 psi that a grease gun may be capable of producing against a dead end cavity. The bearings would push out long before that, and if not, the spindle housings would explode.

I have had a grease gun put enough pressure inside of the spindle housing that it sideloaded the bearings to the point that the shaft couldn't be turned. More than once I have had the internal pressure of spindles be high enough that is opened the 10,000 psi bypass in my Dewalt grease gun. And that will crush the internal seals on sealed bearings inside of the spindle cavity.

Sure, it is, Replace the cheap spindles and run them until they get noisy. Then shove grease in them, if they have fittings and hope they quiet down.

Many of the cheap aftermarket spindles do not even have grease fittings and that is by design.

A lot of the modern aftermarket spindles are cheap "1-season wonders" for people who don't cut much grass.

I replaced one of my spindles last year. It was $150. My mower has three. I'll keep greasing mine. They DO have zerks.
