Extended Warranty Probs

CUBBYMAN

Bought new XT1 LT42B 11/30/23 with extended 2 year Warranty Plan Mower worked fine until I had changed the oil, replaced plugs, replaced all filters before getting to mow one month ago. I got ready to mow and it wouldn't turn over, so I put my electronic battery checker on same and it said to replace,,,which I did. I mowed maybe one 30 yard strip and then mower stopped and was dead as a door nail. Since I didn't want to do anything since I had the extended warranty,,,I called Cub Cadet and they verified that I had an extended warranty and that they would be in touch with me the next day. They called and said that if it was OK they would pick it up tomorrow if that was fine with me of which they did. It has been with them for for a month now and every time I call they say that they are trouble shooting a wiring problem every-time....I would have checked things out my self and if it was a wiring problem I would have it running in an hour or so if no parts were required....What can I do Since CUB CADET doesn't care to give me a new mower like the warranty states. if it can't be repaired.....What can I do,,,,certainly never brag on Cub Cadet products and service any more.......Has any one out there had the same problem as me how did they get it corrected!

I'm stunned they picked it up and attempted to fix it. Just wait till peak mowing season when you can't even pull into the mower shop parking lot they are so busy. Barely April right now.

no I have never intentionally done that that but I do blow everything off several times a season and as I said it it has ran like a top until I replaced the battery andone would expect a company who does repairs for Tractor Supply on extended warranties should have found something by now,,,,If it wasn't for voiding the extended warranty I would have trouble shot things and had it running in at least one week.

They are not looking for a fault , they are looking for an excuse to get out of fixing it
Get onto Consumer affairs pronto

cubbyman. This time of year when all the shops are getting very backlogged and trying to get extended warranty on a box store item. Which by normal shop flow standards for most larger shops put you about a priority 6 repair. So around July time frame would be about right.

I am a one man shop with enough customer backlog right now that I am scheduling mower pickups for my regular customer around the first of May now. Box store repairs are not even on my radar right now.

The dealer sold you a 3rd party "extended warranty", so the cub cadet dealer is likely not calling the shots on the repair, the 3rd party warranty company is and they disputed everything to avoid paying. Aside from that, most of the small engine dealers only have inexperienced parts changers and breathing bodies doing the work. It is seldom any of their folks have any real diagnostic experience, especially when it comes to electrical.

I know this because I was a John Deere service manager/ master technician for a few years and I handled a lot of 3rd party and factory warranty claims. Warranty folk will drag a shop through the dirt before approving repairs.

Sorry "warranty" does not include immediate repairs; there is lots of politics involved.

Have you gone to see them to find out why the mower is not repaired? That is what I would do. Keep your cool.

You are right. Third party extended warranty companies can be brutal. Have to approve which shop does the work. Have to wait for the shop to diagnose the issue, and submit an estimate. Wait for third party to approve the estimate and in some cases ship the parts to dealer at no charge. And wait for dealer to complete repair. And if that doesn't fix it try again.

So you do pick up and delivery for your customers as a one person shop? I quit that option years ago when I got too busy.

I deal with a lot of elderly customers without the means to bring their own mowers. I don't pickup or delivery smaller handheld products or pushmower size products, unless included with z turn or rider style mower pickup/delivery
