Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Sure glad today is Saturday, AGAIN , I used to dread Monday, seems like it always followed a weekend of partying and Hell raising, there were many Mondays with foggy eyes, bleary brain, wobbly legs, and pounding headaches, we called it "having-fun" , so glad I got past all that and skipped maturity, going straight to grumpy ol fart, AHHhh life is good !

Hell, when I used to drink I never had a hangover. It requires you to be sober to have a hangover.

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

most time yes, but I think I'm starting to get depressed by not have a set Job to do each day...........I worked 60-70 hours a week for 35 years, so not getting up before the sun rises to travel over an hour to work each day has me mentally tired.

Doc,

What you are going through is very common among retirees that spent their working lives with their nose to the grindstone.. I retired twice, because I just couldn't stand it the first time around. Once I had done every job everyone in the family could think of to keep me busy the first time and I had nothing left to do every day, I thought I'd go nuts, so I went back to work consulting and estimating. The second time I was more successful and in all honesty, as you get older you'll find that helps. Now on 'slow-days', I find enjoyment in doing small jobs and making improvements in my shop, repairing things around the house, whatever strikes my fancy.

You seem like a man with a lot of varied interests and that is a blessing because you can turn towards a variety of different projects to occupy your time. From observing your activities here on the forum, it would seem you have no shortage of things to do. I would think you could make a decent part-time business out of buying old tractors, then restoring and reselling them. Maybe gather a few more retired friends, each with an ability to contribute and make a real business out of it. It just takes imagination and unless I have sadly misjudged you, you certainly don't lack in imagination..

Hang in there buddy, the only alternative is going to a nursing home, where they'd put you on drugs so you would be content to sit in a chair and twiddle your thumbs all day.. I don't think any of us would want that!!

Like I always told my kids, "You can have and do and be anything you put your mind to.."

Good luck,

Roger

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Ya know Doc, when I first retired, I went a little bananas, no need of the alarm clock, no sweating about losing my job, not going to see my co-workers and ALL the related B/S, FINALLY one day, it hit me while sitting down enjoying the early morning with my coffee, I asked myself, I said : SELF, what is really important in your life right this minute, I pondered on that, for awhile, and I began to realize a few things, I wanted to be healthy, I wanted to visit with my friends ( old & new) and most of all be closer to my family, I visualized at all these "possessions" I have, anything from a small bag of screws from my mowers, up to my home and cars, and all my little projects, that kept me from REALLY doing what is most important to ME, enjoying the last era of my humble life, realizing the the only "mark I made in life" was in my shorts !! Take time to ENJOY LIVING, Doc, while you still can,at our age, MOST of us have one foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel !! ( in our cases an oil-slick ) ..

Well said Boo!

I wish I'd gotten down to this post before I ran off at the mouth on the same subject... You're right! Focus on what is really important in "your" life and take charge of it... Live it to the fullest... I like that..

THAT - Boo, as you well know, is my transaxle out of the MTD Yardman mower that got this entire thread going in the first place! Amazing where it has traveled since then! (The thread, not the mower..)

Hey Goomba, ya know, I never realized you cleaned it up with Purple-Power, THAT stuff is the greatest, ( $4.00 + at Wally-World ) first time I used it, was cleaning a "dolly", used the stuff full-strength (always do) but after a short time I noticed the paint was stripped off the dolly, and my hands were tingling ( didn't wear gloves ) It is the best cheap cleaner I could ever find, but wearing eye protection and rubber gloves is HIGHLY recommended, I remember buying "GUNK", a gallon can cost a wad back then, and it took awhile for it to "dissolve" the dirt & grease, my,.. aren't we glad for the technology !

A little tip I've mentioned before, IF .... you read the last few pages of the thread you're on, you should be able to see what's bein discussed, GUILTY !!! I don't ALWAYS do it, but usually about 98% of the time, I read the posts, to try and see if the question has already been answered .. ( EXCEPTION HERE ) in the case of Chuck answering BEFORE me, I try to step on his toes, by interjecting another answer to the very same question HE answered, that gets him so mad he wets his pants, and kicks the dog !! ....
OR perhaps the subject(s) are several, at that point, I can decide to offer a post as an arss, or in some cases, a smart-arss !

Thank you Roger. My wife tells me that I'm being foolish, because I have enough projects to keep an army of people busy for at least 3 years. I always did projects over the years, mostly just to take my mind off work, now that there is no work, it seems to take the joy out of repairing, creating or tinkering in the garage. I start something and with in hours or days I begin to loose interest.

Well, anyway, Hope everyone has a great day, I'm going to take my dog for a walk and see how today pans out.
