I bought a Badboy Maverick zero turn last year and have had very few problems with it. I jumped on it the other day and mowed one strip across my yard, made the turn to go back, and it died. It was low on fuel so I refilled it and it turned over, but wouldn't run. So I check the air filter and it was filthy so I cleaned it. While waiting for it to dry I put a shot of ether in the intake and tried starting and it fired. So that means it's getting air and fire. I went ahead and replaced the fuel filter, but it still wouldn't crank. Only a little over 100 hrs on it. Kohler 747cc V-Twin

So my questions are:

Is there a fuel inhibitor? Could a stopped up charcoal canister cause this?

Thanks

You check for a blocked tank vent by loosening the fuel cap and trying again
When you refilled the tank you will have vented the tank so the canister is not the no start problem.
Second I hope you meant you washed the foam prefilter wrap and not not the paper element.
Paper elements get tapped on a hard surface or replaced.

I would be checking the fuel supply by removing the float bowl and get some one to crank the engine while you put a catch cup under the float to catch the fuel.
It should be a strong dribble which should stop when you lift the float with your finger to a position parallel with the bottom of the carb.
While the float bowl is off check the fuel shut off solenoid which should move freely with finger pressure while turned off and retract fully when the ignition is turned on.

Yes, only cleaned filter cover. I tested the carb solenoid and it worked fine. Is there a fuse for it? The only other thing I noticed was the hand brake felt loose after it stopped but the inhibitor that the handle pushes is being depressed when brake is locked and it is turning over.

A bit weird this one.
If the fuel pump checks out OK then dump the fuel and put some fresh fuel in the mower.
Pour out some into a jar and have a good look at it
There is nothing to prevent the engine sparking while stationary, otherwise we could not service them.

You have not stated what the fuel delivery was like and weather you get a good flow from the fuel pump & the carb.
A very small amount of water in the float bowl can stop a lot of engines from starting and that would also stop you dead in your tracks while mowing if it accumuates in the float bowl to the level of the main jet.
Got a customer who leaves his mower outside under a tarp held down with bricks and never taken off to allow the mower to dry out.
I have put 2 new float bowls on it in 4 years and last week got called in because it stopped when going up hill ( because the water in the float bowl swamps the main jet & water just won't burn)
