I have a John Deere L120 mower that uses 3 mower blades that have a star mounting hole to attach to the mower not a round hole like most mowers use. I have a lot of sandy soil in my yard does anybody know if you can buy low lift blades for it. I have searched the internet and cannot find any. The mower has a 48” cutting deck. The sand will destroy a mower blade fast. I think a replacement blade that is low lift would be much better than the high lift blades that I buy at the John Deere dealership. The John Deere dealership says that they do not make low lift blades for this mower.

Stens Oregon & Rotary all market aftermarket blades and all of them have websites you type your details into to get a list of available blades.
You won't be able to byt them from the JD dealer as the franchise rules will not allow it but a small mower reair shop ( not a glass fronted retail shop ) should have accounts with the aftermarket supply chains.
Bad news is most blades now days are high lift due to the popularity of mulching.
If you can not find a low lift blade, remove a wedge about a 1/4 at the end from the flute at both ends of each blade.
Oregon make a Gater to fit your mower, however these tend to be higher lift but they are thicker wider & made from a totally different grade of steel so they might last a lot longer.

I checked the Stens oregon and rotary web sites and could not find a blade for the mower. I am no expert on mower blades and may have overlooked it but I don't think I missed it.

Make sure you know the machines S/N as some parts are different as noted.
I have a family member that has two L120 machines, both prior to 150,000 S/N.
Sometimes they are both broken as they get rough use!!!
Guess who gets the pleasure of fixing them!!!

Other than that you can go outside the square and fit latter round spindles used on the "Edge" series decks.
Thus you now have a bigger range of blades to choose from and by now if you are running the original spindles & barings they will be getting near replacement time.

I have a L120 with the 48"deck as well. Not sure of your area, but I found blades for mine at Tractor supply down the road from me. They had different styles of lift for them, wasn't a package of three- you have to buy three of the blades.

330-485 is a std high lift blade
330-318 is a mulching blade, probably not much better.
IF you change the spindle to GX 20151 combined with the blade adapter GX 20150 you end up with the 11/16 hole
You can then fit the 330-308 (Stens) low lift blades.
They are 17 & 3/16 " so might need a little trimming

I went to the john Deere dealership today. I looked at the blade M86209 and also the blade adapter GX20151 and the two would not go together the blade adapter is cupped and the lawn mower blade is flat so it will not go together. The blades that I have now, the middle of the blade is not flat. Thanks for the information if you have any more ideas please let me know.
