As the title reads, I'm having a problem with my Honda mower with fine clipping going through the grass catcher.

Someone suggested that this mower is equipped with a blade (that dual blade thing) that's intended for mulching, therefore it works best to not use the grass catcher and just mulch the clippings. I understand the concept but there are times you want to bag.

I'm just wondering if there is another blade that I can use (or modify the existing blade) that won't mulch the clipping and being larger stay contained inside of the catcher.

I had an Honda HR21 mower that I bought brand new in the 70s. I didn't have this problem with it. You could mow and stay relatively clean. This mower shoots so much out that I have resorted to wearing a particle mask to keep from breathing in the clippings.

Honda recommends only using the original twin-blades on all HRX models.

Where do you have the green Clip Director knob set? If it is in full BAG mode, this means maximum airflow to the bag. Try moving it halfway between BAG and MULCH to close the shutter a bit. This will reduce the airflow, and might reduce the amount of fine clippings escaping the bag. You might find a sweet-spot that allows good bagging performance while reducing the air enough to help with the clippings, and still give you a nice clean finish on the lawn.

I have it set to the full open position. Otherwise, wouldn't 50% air flow prevent clipping from reach the back of the grass catcher?

Sometimes I bag with my HRX217HYA and it can be a bit dusty, but grass never gets through the bag!

Yes, and some clippings will be returned to the lawn, others will make it into the bag. Experiment a bit to find a good location where the trade off gets you the finish you want without any clippings being forced out of the bag...

Does Honda have any dust covers available for the bags and if so would that help? I doubt they do but I know Billy Goat has them for their leaf vacs so I was curious.

Not for USA models. Some European Honda mowers have optional bag designs that work well in dusty conditions.

Would this European Honda mower work better since it looks like it has a hard top to the bag?

Yes, that's the one. The cover across the top helps reduce dust blowing back onto the operator.
