ZTR.. Ferris 2100z or Scag equivalent?

I have 2+ acres to mow. Not a huge amount compared to some on here.

I started with a simplicity regent tractor. The cut was great.. but it couldn't take some of the bumps and isn't holding up to well.
So I went with a little SCUT.. Kubota Bx2670 with mid mount mower, front end loader box blade etc.. to help out around the property too.

The cut is OK. Not as good as the simplicity.

I would like to get a ZTR to cut the time down. Something that has a great cut, but also can handle the roughness and not break down.

My thought was the ferris 21000Z. I bit of an overkill, but I'm ok with that if it lasts.

Then I was reading about Scag with a suspension seat.

I haven't seen either cut, except on the web, and there are no dealers for either close. Only box stores and a Kubota dealer.

I'm in Canada so I don't have the same access as some of you guys do.. SO... can you guys help me out with what the differences are and help along with the decision making process?

Thanks

I am between a Scag Liberty Z and a JD Z 535 . Scags are built like a tank , Ferris will give you a less rough ride but Scag will give the better cut . I never owned a ZT but have friends that love them . If you are concerned about mower holding up I would pick Scag . I would look at Ferris but dealer too far away. Scag tigers are great but I want to stay under 4,500 myself. Dealer reputation plays a big part. Scag simply the best

Re: ZTR.. Ferris 2100z or Scag equivalent (Tiger)

So using price as a equalizer..

The ferris is2100z with 61 inch deck and kawasaki engine
and
The Scag Tiger with 52 inch Kawasaki with suspension seat are about the same price.

I have to go to both places to see them.. but can anyone tell me what they think the pros and cons are and what they would do?

Thanks

Scag will give you a better cut and I have been on both , know commercial landscapers that would buy the Scag in a heart beat over a Ferris . Exmark would be better than Ferris from all the local info I have gotten here in Virginia...Scag Exmark and Dixie Chopper . Only pro I see with Ferris is the suspension . If money was not a issue I would buy a Tiger cat tomorrow

I have never dealt with a Ferris but I have three Tiger Cat Scags and we run the hide off of them. I can't tell you that they are the best mower on the market truthfully because I have never dealt with a lot of brands. I can tell you that they will cut circles around Kubotas because I had a ZD326 and still own a ZG222. Down here they are about $8500 but they are built to take a licking and keep on ticking. No more property than you are talking about cutting a new Tiger Cat Scag will be the last mower you probably will ever have to buy. I have a friend with a Tiger Cub which is the version before the Tiger Cat that is 19 years old and runs great.

A Scag with a Velocity deck is a grass cutting machine.

Thanks for the replies.
They want another $800 for the stripping kit. Do you think it is worth it, or look for an after market one?

I will try to get a demo of both. My back lawn is a bit rough... I would like to see how the scag handles rough ground.

Cam32... how did you find the ride between the two? Do you think the suspension seat makes up for the ferris suspension?

OH.. to throw a wrinkle in.. both will be used to mulch.

Anyone have experience with either of them mulching?

Ferris ride is a tad better but not enough to get me buying one If all I cared about was the ride then I would get a Ferris Hope that helps. Stripping kit could be bought later . Scag will handle rough ground better , built like a tank and the deck is top notch ..If I find a good used one then I will jump on it

Worth upgrading to a tiger cat II.. I don't know the cost.. but is there anything earth shattering?

A suggestion, give them both a test ride. All of the dealers around me will let you test the mower. The dealer delivers the mower and you can cut your entire lawn. This way you can check the ride, cut, and handling of each mower and then decide which one you like best. As a side, the dealers sell these mowers at the end of the year at a discount. I also know that some buyers will make an offer on the mower the dealer delivers at a reduced price.
