I came home from work today to find out my brother used my new precious lawn mower to jump his truck...at first, i was furious at him. However, he said...before you get more angry...go try to start your lawn mower...i mumbled, its not gonna work  ...but i got on the lawn mower, turned the key...and it started in its usual 1 second of cranking  i was so happy...and i carried away some new knowledge, that its possible to jump a dead truck battery (dead to the point of clicking) off a lawn mower  In case anyone was wondering, its a Husqvarna 25 hp Kholer engine with about 55 hours on it...i was really surprised...just thought i'd share

Why do you find it so surprising? Any decent size lawn tractor battery has enough CCA to spin over a good size vehicle engine, in WARM WEATHER at least. It is recommended you have a vehicle battery of at least one CCA per cubic inch, and I have a portable jump starting unit that has a battery the size of a lawn tractor battery, and it packs 300 CCA, and because the truck battery was not completely dead, it only needed a second of current surge going thru it. While you may be proud, I am not impressed.

Tell us you started a truck with a 12 volt cordless drill battery and maybe I will be....:laughing:

I don't know why I'm surprised...it could be (not meaning to sound rude here it just sounds that way sorry, i can't think of another way to word it) that it showed no signs of battery drain when i went to start it again, and my brother did keep it running after he got his truck started..he shut it off immediately...oh well...i just didn't know it was possible...thanks for the info

He did it right to keep the tractor running while doing the jump start, because the alternator on the tractor helps keep the battery at full charge. I started a thread here at one time that described how out DirectTV installer tried to hook up his 12 volt cordless drill to his S-10 truck battery using jumper cables and 12 gage wire....

The way battery technology is changing, it won't be too long until you can start a vehicle with a battery the size of a fist.

Hope so, that's is what is holding back electric vehicles.

I'm probably going to get stick for this but personally I'll never buy an electric vehicle.

I wouldn't buy any vehicle for that matter that was made after 2000. Too many buttons, too many useless features and things to go wrong.

We have came to the point that to work on any equipment we have we must have a garage full of accessories with which to service it ---remember when the old school was absoluty the best --but alas we were in a slower time when we could smell the roses as we walked to school and chatted with our friends who were walking with us now we text every one while we are speeding down the road all alone what went wrong lol

I've worked on electric forklifts from 1978 till 2002. since 2002 I have taught others how to work on them. They can run 8 or more hours a day, but you have to have a large battery to do it, like 2000lbs. If they can reduce the size and weight of the battery while keeping the power there, most of the problems will be solved. The Toyota Hybrids are using the Toyota forklifts electrical system to power them.

Also remember that the 1st hybrid was made in about 1910 and has been in constant use since. It really is not a new system.

Anybody know what the 1st hybrid was? WITHOUT Googleing it.

You mean gas/electric or steam/electric?

I assume he means first ever, be that fuel and electric or steam and electric.

Without googling it I`m saying Ford model T...there were so many back then .......about e-vehicles my opinion only..but for them to make a go of it..we need a breakthough in electric storage and a breakthough in electric generation, our old school ways wont be enough..solar panels only convert 5%-7% of the potential.
now I`m gonna google the answer........lol

mmmm..that gas elc. or steam elec. question dun done me in........lol
turns out the model T killed the hybrids......lol

Reread my question, it has been in constant use since around 1928. And it is Fossile Fuel / Electric.....

Sorry about the incorrect date

That is a preposterous idea! Oh, by the way I jump started our car with my phone battery once

I would very much like to know how you boosted your car's battery with a cell phone!
I am reasonably sure it's well beyond the realm of possibility.
Would you mind providing some details?
Please!

Well, nobody answered, so the 1st Hybrid systems put in use and used ever sinse are the S-class submarines S-3, S-6, and S-7. The concept was put forth in 1928 and these were built in 1929. They are still using them today. AND lets no forget the ALCO HH series of diesel-electric switcher entered series production in 1931. Sence it has no battery, it is not a true hybrid.

I thought it silly, period, as I am a long term AAA member and know for a fact they have no providers in Scotland, so it was an impossibility to begin with.

He meant AAA, as in the battery size (the kind you'd use in remote controls etc...)

Besides, we have the AA here in the UK, and they do basically the same thing.

Just instead of being the American Automobile Association, it is the Automobile Association.
