The carburetor solenoid will NOT stop fuel from entering the cylinder and hydro locking the engine, IF the needle and seat are not functioning correctly. This is a large part of why this part is misunderstood. The term “hydro locking” should obviously be “fuel locking” if it were to be accurate. Hydro means water.

No the fuel solenoid does stop fuel from flowing into the main jet/nozzle of the carburetor. But many thinks it stops fuel from flowing into the carburetor's fuel bowl which it doesn't; that's the job of the float needle valve and seat.

I am curious, as this is the first fully computer controlled carb I’ve seen on a small engine - is it at all wise to attempt removal of the actuators for inspection & cleaning?

I haven’t removed them yet. I suspect it’s much like a modern throttle body actuator, but I also don’t want to lose any parts that may be too small to find, should they come flying out if/when I do.

So far I’ve removed the bowl, needle & float, main & secondary jets , and thoroughly cleaned them. The needle was stuck in the seat by gunk but did come out w/ some penetrating oil & gently actuating the float to free it.

The upper half of the carb I kept in an upright position and cleaned with aerosol carb cleaner & compressed air. I worked around the position of the plates w/o rotating them.

Thanks again for the help. I should have the parts by Friday.
 
Apparently MTD/CC don't to stock the parts for the carburetor on that AX90HU series, which I think it is a Loncin, just like they on a lot of the Loncin carburetors.

And no don't disassemble any more than necessary due to lack parts availability.

UPDATE:

Got it assembled today and the needle isn’t sealing, so it’s overflowing fuel. The seat is clean & the float is doing its job. The needle looks OK but it took quite a bit more pressure to manually shut off the fuel flow, so I think it’s hardened and won’t seal anymore, unless there’s a trick I’ve yet to learn, which I try to do every now and again.

I found a part number on CC’s website but not much luck on Google, though that’s probably my fault. I’m still processing at Windows 95 speeds…..Hold please. :unsure:

Either way, I’m going to check with a couple of local small engine shops that may have a replacement on hand.

UPDATE:

The new needle fixed the overflow problem. Engine starts and runs good - took it on a 20 minute test mow with no problems.

Customer has had it since then and (AFAIK) hasn’t brought it back….yet. :ROFLMAO:
