Greetings all,
I purchased a used X540 last year, with about 700 hours and nearly all of my mowable yard is on some kind of hillside. The diff lock is essential and worked great through most of last year and then stopped working.
I stopped by the local JD store this morning to see a new X570 and compare the diff lock travel of the new tractor to mine (there is a small actuator/pivoting piece which the rod pushes when pedal is compressed), and it moves the same amount, which to me says the problem must be internal. The mechanisms and linkage of mine all look correct. After being directed to the service desk, I was told a new transmission would be $3900-$4000 (including pickup/dropoff), which is more than 2x+ what I paid for it used. Is there a more simple fix to this than an entirely new transmission? Everything else seems to work well. Are independent small engine shops generally able to fix these at a much better price?
Appreciate any input you all can provide. Thank you!
