Welch Plug

went to clean out the ultrasonic parts cleaner and this welch plug was in it. I am guessing it goes where the arrow points. Looked at the engine case, and the carb exterior, no signs of where a plug would go. Nor can I think of anything else on the engine where their might be one. The plug does fit the hole the arrow points to. The carb kit has a plethora of new plugs in it, but this one has a stake mark in the middle so it has been installed and is not a new one. Can anyone confirm where it goes? Briggs and Stratton 125K02-0189-E1 06041958. I do use the ultrasonic for other things, but it gets cleaned after every job although the plug was down in the drain and only came out when I blew air back thru the drain. Lucky I saw it fly and where it landed.

Yes, that is the location for the welch plug. The plug mostly covers the compensation air passage of the carburetor. This passage allows air to come in as fuel is being drawn

Usually, the plug can be carefully renewed with a small punch placed at the highest point of the dimple in the center and then reinserted in the carb.

A small dab of JB weld is great to hold it in place but do not use so much that you cover the slot cutout. The welch plug acts as a "baffle" so fuel cannot escape, but air can get in.

thank you. new one now staked in. old one was already staked and mostly flat. I staked the one in the kit and gently tried to lift it. It is in there. There was also a smaller one that fit a spot on the exterior. That passage was not drilled so none was probably ever there, but I put it in there anyway.
