Repairs Weak Hydro pump zero turn

I have a commercial grade Simplicity Colbalt 27 mower. 61" cut. For some time now the LH steering has not worked right. Goes forward OK but not reverse. RH side works fine. Filter and fluid has been changed several times. no leaks. I've narrowed the problem down to the pump. A replacement is $700 - 800 which is rather steep. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried to repair or rebuild one? I guess I've got nothing to lose by tearing it apart and seeing if I could figure it out, but thought I'd ask first. Part number on the pump is 5102174YP

Did you bleed air from hydraulics? If not you need to do so every time you change fluid and filter.
