"vintage" Honda HR 215 harmony mystery no go

bulletproof for over ten years starts 1st pull every spring ok so ran outa fuel refilled nothing no kick no sputter nothing i had run out often over the years nbd but one oddity is it just shut off on the spot it used to sputter a while even sometimes enough to push across yard to shed to refill not this time just powered down at empty spray starting fluid in carb and plug hole not a kick confirm spark and replace plug anyway next test compression after 2/3 pulls hits 70ish and doesnt seem to bleed down gonna check under valve cover for some hang up and perhaps the keyway on flywheel FYI its got the fuel shut off valve thing incorporated in throttle cable and i think a decompression valve for starting anyone got a direction before i waste more time ? thx 4 reading this !

Can you provide the engine and chassis product ID numbers, so we have an idea of what model engine you are dealing with?

Probably a Honda GCV160. If it ran out of gas and now won’t even briefly start on carburetor spray, that ain’t good. Recheck for spark and go from there.

thank you for response i have engine id GJAB-6679655
I guess deck id is MZBB-617366 ?
I DID PULL OF ROCKER COVER CONFIRMED MOVEMENT ON VALVES AND NO EVIDENCE OF HANGING UP BUT DID NOT CHECK CLEARANCES( sorry for caps )
rechecked compression and it only hit 60 psi after around 5 pulls
pulled flywheel up to inspect keyway and appears in proper place nothing shredded or off
re sprayed carb directly with starting fluid after removing air filter housing not even a kick plug is totally dry
reconfirmed spark to plug with inline tester and plug out grounded to confirm final spark destination
broke loose bowl drain and gas readily dripping
is the 60 psi just too low for even a rough start
ran great never smoked or anything
last winter on final start pull cord broke all i did was cut out the foot by t handle and it has full reach plus it has startd a dozen times or so this year only thing i had to do recently
weird ???
thanks for reading this if u got this far !!!

even at 60 psi it should run some. Pull the plug out, crank it over a few times and let it sit ten minutes. Might be flooded with a wet or fouled spark plug.

Still need machine label information.

I agree with sgkent. Most modern engines have a compression relief function to allow for easier cranking. 60 PSI is considered good enough to support initial combustion. Once combustion takes place and the engine fires over the compression relief mechanism retracts with the RPM.

Pull the plug a shoot some carb spray (not starting fluid) in the hole and put the pug back in. Crank it over and see if it tries to fire. If it does not the spark is not occurring.

If a Torch branded plug has been put in this engine, throw it away and get a better plug such as a genuine NGK from the parts store.
