I just received B & S electric lawn mower. On the casing there is a metal tag with date of 2/18/1997. I am trying to find out if after new battery 12 V, will I be able to get parts. Great machine that I will be able to manage, Any recommendations would be very much appreciated. I am going to contact small engine company nearby. Thank you, Rita

if I had to guess, it was likely sold as a replaceable unit, and you probably have the last one in existence. But without the model number and serial number no one is going to be able to find anything about it. It is 25 years old at this time.

I’m betting you mean electric starting mower, not an electric mower. As stated we will need a bit more info from you. Can you take a picture of the ID tag and/or the battery on the mower?

Good catch. I was thinking it ran on batteries and was some one off unit with a Briggs label on it.

You are correct an electric mower. When I saw a picture of the unit I remember them being around for a couple of years. Here’s a parts breakdown of your unit. If you take your old battery to a place like Battery’s Plus, they might be able to help you. I’m thinking cost of a new battery may not be worth it. Sorry I can’t give you better news. https://www.thepowerportal.com/ipls/ipl.htm?md=BE2010013401~_IPLURL_LO.pdf

Rivets, Thank you for that information. I probably will check out replacement battery. This is the perfect size for me and my front lawn. Will try thru B&S.

most likely there is a replaceable battery inside the battery box. As Rivets said, it may or may not be of a standard size. The manual mentions a charger and there are some cables involved. I'd almost bet that even if you got it running with a new battery, and you have the charger, it would only be good to mow a small backyard in a townhome or something like that, and you'll be replacing the battery every two or three years. Just a guess.

The part number of the battery shows up on at least one site as no longer available so a battery store will be your best bet. It is probably a motorcycle battery or something like that. My old computer battery backups used small batteries like that back around 2000. That is what I base the life expectancy off.
