I have a Craftsman rider with a 48 inch deck that is a bit too small for my 4 acre yard:) Looking at getting a ZTR as I have a fair amount of trees to mow around my flat property. I found a used Toro Timecutter Z that is 2 years old with a 50 inch deck and a bagger for 1250. He says it has new deck wheels and blades.
Attached is the only pic that I have seen so far...he says he needs to clean it up still.

Does it initially seem like a good deal and worth checking out?

Sure looks good in the pictures, but what can a picture tell you? Also for 1250 even if you have to spend a little money wouldn't be a bad thing. How much is a new one? Why is he selling it? How does it run and sound, like any bearing noise? How long has it been sitting? Do the blades look like they have hit something big and hard? Any oil in the engine? Any dry rot on the tires or rubber parts like hoses? etc. Just a few things to check like buying any used mower.

What is that about half price of new with the bagger thrown in for free? I would buy a new one I think unless the bagger means alot to you. I know a fellow that has one, he likes it, but has only used it about 15hours in two years. For sure would need to look into rodent or insect activity the way it is stored.

I think a new one would be around $3400 at least. I was lookin at a new one with a 42" deck and it was $3000

All I am saying look at what you are buying. You are buying a used mower. Everyone is telling you everything is perfect from looking at a picture and just buy it. I am not telling you not to buy it. All I am saying Run it, listen to it, and look at it close. I have nothing to win or lose on this mower if you get it or not. You sure don't want to fix more then mow. It sure looks like a nice mower with low hours and a good price. Yes you would sure hate to lose a good deal, but for some reason you asked for advice from this forum and there must be some doubt??? I guess I have been took for a bad ride more then once and in my older years I just just look out a little closer now.

Question, why would a 2 year old mower need a deck, wheels and blades? I could understand blades but the rest. ???
