On my gun parts I put Simple Green or other cleaners in a zip lock bag with the parts to be cleaned, then I have warm water in my parts cleaner, put the zip lock bag in the cleaner and turn it on to let it do its thing. This saves a lot of cleaning solution.

i am going to try the 8hp carb tomorrow, working today. i will say, when it goes from idle to mid or hugh speed with throttle lever, it will stumble, puff black smoke, surge a few times then smoothe out. the washer is under the spring on main jet, lost one once so pretty careful about those. im not scrapping the carb yet, i believe the one on the 8hp is also adjustable, will keep you all posted. magnatron magneto, new spark plug.

I use 1 part Super Clean to 3 parts water in
I use Super Clean in ultrasonic cleaner.

one more important thing i forgot to mention, the 3 little transfer holes in throttle bore were cleaned with a small L-shaped wire. no restriction, although... i did not remove welch plug. wondering if dome dirt or corrosion trapped behind it?
Totally Awesome from the Dollar General works as good as anything I have tried. I have heard the Cascade platinum dishwasher works really good but I haven't tried it. Over the years I have used simple green and others I don't remember. For carbs make sure you get the outside clean first with brake clean or that dirt may be deposited some where you don't want it.

Ultrasonic cleaners does a very good job at cleaning but they are not miracle cleaners. Sometimes it require some additional mechanical cleaning. With ultrasonics the surfaces must be a little rough microscopy; otherwords, say a jet with a very smooth clog it will not clean. This is because there is no place for the microscopy bubbles to form that in turn explode loosening the unwanted foreign materials.
Another mistake some do is to overload the solution with cleaning agents. Just use enough to suspense the foreign materials and no more. Actually your cleaner will let you know by sounding more muffled than normal as it get overloaded with cleaners. Or at least my does.
And all ultrasonic will not fully clean on the first cycle. Most will require multiple cycles depending how dirty an item is. And everyone should do at least one rinse cycle when cleaning done to remove the cleaners.
As for welch plugs most can be left in place as the foreign materials are usually broken up very fine pieces and float out the small opening. Hence with a clear cleaning solution it looks as if the item is smoking out the ports.
The problem I had so far besides burning out a heat element due leaving an unit dry is the size of the HF one is too small for my applications. And I might consider an even larger unit later if needed than my current 6 or 10 liter unit.

I would not remove the welch plug unless the other carb tests good.
I don't remove welch plugs on old carbs that I do not have a correct replacement plug UNLESS I know for sure it's the carb and I've tried most everything else first so as to get it corrected.
If I do not have a replacement plug I carefully drill a small hole in the center of the plug then use a O ring pick or ice pick to carefully remove the plug for re-use. I reform the plug concave using a piece of leather and re-install and use a non-runny slow drying epoxy to reseal the hole without getting any epoxy inside and cover the complete plug out to the edges.
I have a screened carb cage and I can sometimes use blow gun with needle tips and force out a welch plug with high pressure air into the welch plugs jet area and not have to drill.
