Looking for advise from anyone presently using an Ultrasonic Cleaner to clean carburetor parts etc., their recommendations and cleaning solutions that work.

The last I used one was 40 some years ago while working in a small jewelry manufacture shop during college. All I can recall about it was it cleaned jewelry like magic and the cleaning solution was purple color.

cleaning solutions that work.

.

Back in the earlier years when I first started in the repair business the carburetor cleaner was so strong it would burn your hands or melt plastic. Them were the days when carburetor cleaner really worked. The carburetor cleaning solution we buy today has lost all of its cleaning power, but it wouldn't burn your hands, melt plastic or clean carburetors. Never used a ultrasonic cleaner but maybe its the thing that is needed to clean a carburetor??

I picked one up off the internet brand new just a cheap one, 700 ml capacity 42000 Hz frequency, for home use it works quite well for small carburetors but can't fully submerge larger carbs in it, at work we have a 2 litre capacity ultrasonic cleaner which can fit the larger carbs & some tools & the bosses watch which gets a lot of oily crap in it:smile:

The fluid isn't ( IMHO) overly important. It's the ultrasonic waves in a non compressible fluid that does the work. I use hot water and a few drops of dish washing liquid. For jewelry, there was probably an antiseptic property in the fluid. Decent ones can be had off Amazon or Ebay, or if you have any electrical skills at all, you can McGuyver one for about $60.00 from Ebay parts.

This, a stainless steel container, some JB weld, 4 marretts and an old extension cord, and you'll have an ultrasonic cleaner that will clean out a carburetor in about 15 to 20 minutes.

I had a Toro timecutter in my shop that hadn't be run in a couple of years.. sprayed carb cleaner in it... Seafoam in the fuel.. nada.. Took the carb off, and gave it 20 minutes in the US bath ( hot water and Dove). You could see, after a minute or two, clouds of stuff coming out of it. I put it back together, and it purred like a kitten.

Got 2 and am about to fit a transponder onto an old laundry tub to make a 60 liter cleaner, big enough to dump a whole engine or hydro into.
I end up with a lot of dirty fluid which I keep for cleaning the outside of engines, works a treat.
Carbs get brand new clean fluid.
One is filled with kerosene ( Parrafin to some ) the other gets a cleaning solution from one of my wholesalers, made up to 1/2 strenght for cube carbs, full strength for mower carbs.
Oddly enough leave them min too long without the ultrasound going and they corrode.
