The spring should connect in the small hole next to the square hole on the right side in this picture.

Most likely the hole were the spring was connected will have a keyway wear area and be shiny.

The back end is connected, I don't know where the end facing the camera goes. The belt broke so I think it is related to this spring.

Never mind. I went on another forum and within 30 minutes several gentlemen replied with pics showing where the spring went.

THOSE PICS DON'T SHOW WHERE THE SPRING ATTACHES, USELESS.

Can you show a full top view of picture your deck? That would be helpful. This is an idler lever tension spring that broke the end off. The lever that swivels on the deck has a pulley. One of the holes in that lever should have signs of a wear notch, or there is a pin standing up on the lever assembly for the spring to attach to.

If you would of blown the picture up you can see the hole that I described where the spring connected. Also it would of help if you could of verified the model number as requested in your original post , because the model number you listed is for a 2010 Troybilt with a 38 inch deck not the 2003 you claim it was with a 42 inch deck. https://www.lawnmowerforum.com/threads/troy-bilt-riding-mower-42.79335/ where Starlink also answered with the picture that you claim we didn't provide.
