have craftsman 20 hp 917.274399 tractor/mower. transaxle locked even though the release lever is locked back in frame slot. tried rocking back and forth to try and get release to give way but no luck. cannot push or pull tractor. need to remove from shed to drop mower unit for cleaning and maintenance. no useful information in manual. suggestions?

A cousin bought a 600 dollar lawn tractor at auction for 25 bucks. Auction co. announced the tranny was locked. After I mention to cousin it was typical for the brake rotor to cause that same problem he bought it and sure enough, just fix the brake and have a good mower.
