Do that if you plan to never have them for a customer again because they have a "buddy" that can do the work "much cheaper". LOL
Trick is a non hardening sealant. This stuff is great if YOU are the guy removing the cover next time.
For valve covers and oil pans. Use in aviation and automotive apps.

I heard guys say to finger tighten the RTV down and wait 24 hours before torquing it.

It is a matter of reading the label on the product (with a magnifying glass) or looking it up online to understand the product you intend to use.
Way too many people rush through a repair by skipping over the needed cure time. I simply ask why rush?

Buy or make your own cork/neoprene gaskets, they will be reusable at least once if you don't overtighten the valve cover. I would use the 1/16"- 1/8" thick material. You can buy sheets of it at auto supply stores or probably Harbor Freight.
That is true if you use RTV on most formulas, not all. Read the directions on any sealant.
Just to throw out another benefit. Form-a-Gasket is about 75% cheaper than any RTV. Another reason I use it. I'm a cheap azz.
Not all Kohlers have hydraulic lifters.
