I have seen some deep and long digs in the cylinders and still get them running. This is back in my younger years working on 2 cycle snowmobile engines when we didn't have parts and we had snow for a week end run and a last resort repair.

So you think if a guy hones the cylinder put a new piston and rings in it might run? Thatwould be the best news I have heard if that will work

If you can get a new piston, do you know a machine shop that will re bore the cylinder then you can get a oversize piston and rings. If not I would say its worth a try just new rings and hone out the high spots so the new rings can't catch on them. I have been there and done that. Some times you just have to make do with what you have. I had a old road-a- tiller this early spring I had to do that with, the customer has ran it all last season and as far as I know he is ready for next year. On that engine I had to use the piston over and just cleaned out the piston ring groves so the new rings were free to move. runs fine

Yes I do know a machine shop. I can post a pic to see what you think torrorow. Not sure how I got my buddy's pic of his fish on here. We caught that yesterday

Nice looking fish, Take it to the machine shop and they can tell you what oversize piston and rings you will need. Its not what I think, the machine shop will have to measure what you have and they can tell you what to buy. A good engine machine shop doses this work all the time and they will know.

Being I know nothing about ice augers, stop and think what do you want to put in repairs here. 3 to 4 hundred dollars for a repair or a new ice auger???
 
Three or four hundred will buy a spanking new ice auger. I like the Tec 2 cycle engines but they are fast becoming just another thing of the past.

So far with a few of my other augers or high powered gas cut off saws I've only put 30-75$ into them for rebuilds. I'm just doing this for fun and to make a little money at it. I like to resurrect engines I guess after they r dead. I can buy these augers for $30 complete so even if I get 75$ to $100 in to it I'm still making $100 minimum on them and I had fun doing it.
