tecumseh 17.5 smoking bad at start up

I have a Tecumseh 17.5 that smokes bad at start up and after it burns off it fine. I'm assuming its just valve seals and if so are they difficult to put in?

Horizontal or vertical shaft, single or twin cylinder, overhead valve or L-head engine. These are all things we need to know. You can solve our problem by doing one thing, please post all engine model number, because our ESP reception is very poor on this forum.

Could be just oil seeping past the rings when not running which is somewhat common. Especially if the oil level is high.
